  • towbar tongue

    Hi All

I have a factory towbar that with the standard tongue has the ball too low for my boat trailer. The issue is i cant get my jockey wheel on my boat trailer up and down without killing myself (getting too old ) My thought was just to turn the tongue upside down and then pull the ball off and re mount on the now "right way up.

Should be fine i guess? anyone come up with a good reason why i shouldnt do this....?

    cheers

Sounds like a perfect excuse for a lift

Yep, you can just turn the tounge around. It says that it in the fitting instructions for the tow bar.

          Hello Rugbynut,

Turning the tongue around is fine, carefully check that you can open the rear door with the tongue upside down as I did this to mine and now I cannot open my rear door with the trailer attached. Bit of a pain with boat gear in the truck and the door blocked shut.

You could shorten the trailer jockey wheel (or buy a shorter one) or fit a 40mm lift to the suspension.

          regards

          Ross

            Thanks Ross

I think the lift is a bit of an expensive option
I think ill just turn the tongue
Thought about the jokey but its already quite new.

            ..

Had a read of my towing instruction booklet that comes with the genuine toyota tow kit for the 150.

It says if the tongue can be inverted that it will have a sticker on it saying the different load ratings for one way vs. the other
                (Mine doesn't have this sticker)

I am hoping I can still make the change as I would like some extra height as well.

                  My tongue still has the sticker, doesn't say anything about a different rating if it is inverted;
