  • How Have You Fitted Your Tigerz11 Winch?

I took up the 4WD Action offer of the Tigerz11 Hercules winch and went to fit it last weekend to a ARB Deluxe winch bar.
Have to say the whole exercise was a bit of a debacle but we're nearly there.

Just some of the problems I came up against were:
Had to fabricate a bracket to mount control box on bullbar as the brackets that came with it were designed to fit the 2 chrome bars on top of the winch.
Had to make new power cables as they were only 350mm long.
Had to rotate the motor and drill out the 2 blanks for the screws that go through the motor into the end cap.
Also had to rotate the gearbox and here lies my question.

For those that have also had to rotate the gearbox, what position have you got the lever at.
After a couple of goes I have the lever set at say 10 o'clock, looking at the gearbox from the end.
As I discovered after bolting the winch back in, the lever fouls on the bullbar and doesn't rotate the full 180deg to engage.
What is the best position to have the lever so that I can get access either through the top of the bar or through the front?

One last problem I discovered last night while trying to mount the control box; I can't get in to access the 2 nuts underneath to bolt it on, so the winch has to come out again.

    No wonder a man drinks!

Mate, I've never tried to fit one... But I will be fitting one when i get home...
So thanks for the heads up on the issues with the installation - somethings are handy to know before the install starts!

Sounds like the usual dramas fitting a winch really.
Only other issues are usually bolts being too short.
But yes always having cables too short and making brakets, turning motors, drilling, and turning gearbox's.
You would think they could supply another bracket for, Not on winch mounting and some longer bolts etc.
Painfull job really but you get used to it.

I just turn the lever to where ever it is clear and most accessable, you can only do what you can hey......
I think usually facing to the back of vehicle and slightly upwards only if posible with clearance.

Ohh and I usaully mount the control box between the bullbar and radiator somewhere, depending what bullbar and where the motor is mounted for over or underwind. Toyota Sov bar and braket gets mounted overwind, Arb etc is underwind.
If you plan to go out winching, its good to have the box out accessable, but I find to keep it hidden in a dryer safer place works too.

      Have fun with that hey.....

For what it worth, I have an older Tigerz11 winch, probably about three years old from a previous car. I just had it swapped over to the new Prado and got the bullbar installer to fit it for me as he offerred to do it for nothing, I didn't take long to say OK that's for sure as I remember going through issues like you have. I got him to mount the box under the bonnet onto a bracket attached to the second battery tray.

Here is a couple of pics of what was done

That all sounds pretty standard Dobbo, The cables were spot on for my install and I didn't have to drill anything out, but the bolts were too short and the gearbox needed to be rotated. I lift the bonnet to access the lever but that wouldn't work on the 150!

                Cheers Andrew

I fitted the same winch to my 120 on the sovereign bar, had to buy new bolts get get through the bar and cradle and grind the fairhead on the sides to make it fit.
I mounted the control box to the bar itself so its accessible when the bonnet is open because it wouldnt fit on the winch between the chrome bars and condenser.
Went to use it about a week later and it wouldn't work, probably due to the vibration of the bar but the problem was bad connections in the control box.

So if I would give any advise it would be open the control box and solder all the connections instead of the push on connectors. That said not a bad unit.

                      gday,

just fitted my tigerz11 winch to deluxe bar, easy job, the only difficulty was working out we had to pull winch apart, spin outer casing 90degrees (roughly) re-bolt up and then mount. once we had spun outer casing the clutch lever is easily accessible thru front hole of bullbar so i can engage/release very easily. i then had to drill some extra holes in bullbar to mount box on top in front of grill. cables were no probs in terms of length as i ran them back to the main battery. all up the job took 3hrs, but we sat around working out the clutch lever dilema for an hour and half. the winch is discreet (other than box on bullbar) yet lever easy to get to.

the difference between the 120 and 150 is that when the bonnet is open the grill is attached to the 120 and hence the lever is easier to get to. the 150 doesnt have that luxury and hence the dilema accessing the lever.....can post some pics once daylight appears if youd like...
all the best with the fitting
