  • ARB Under Vehicle Protection

Just wondering if anyone has picture of the ARB under vehicle protection plates for the 150 prado? I am particularly interested to know if the transfer case guard covers the actuator at the back of the transfer case (like brains' guard) or does it only cover the bottom of the case (like the oem guard)?

I was having a chat to the ARB agent who installed my bar, he didnt have the prado plates in stock but showed me a set of hilux guards that were the oem shape, when we had a look under a hilux on the hoist it didnt have the actuator like the 150 (i guess becuase they still have a manual transfer lever).

I know i can get a brains' guard for 150 odd but the arb guy quoted $400 for the full set of plates (supply only) which included the transfer case guard.

If anyone can answer the same question for the Brown Davis guards, that would be appreciated too as they were the other ones I was deciding between.

Have a look at VeeZeeSS Bukild up. He has recently posted some good pick of his ARB protection including Transfer case guard... Not as good as Brains TG150 however as it doesnt protect the actuator...

Also Check my build up page....

I have a few pics there!!

The transfer case guard on the ARB UVP is the same as the OEM, but made from 3mm plate steel.
Brains guard offers better protection in that area.

      Cheers,

Cheers Jeff, that was exactly what I was after. Brains guard is clearly a far superior product.

Does Brains guard still fit if the ARB or TJM under body protection is fitted also?

Couldn't see why it would interfere, just fit Brains guard to the back of the transfer rather than the ARB one. There's some good photos on Jeffers build, (link in previous posts) that shows where the ARB protection finishes at the crossmember. Must order some myself.

If you get the ARB guard check that the oil drain pipe from the oil filter goes through the hole where the sump
plug is, my ARB guard's are great but the hole is about 15 to 20mm out...I have to extend the pipe or cut the
hole where it should have been in the first place
              Cheers

I've got the TJM plates and the Brains guard no problems with the fit. Mine is a v6 however.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

Our TG150 protects the transfer case but also protects the plastic Actuator as well. It fits with all the different underbody protection available including TJM, AMTS, ARB, Browns Davis and Ironman.
Like it has been said the ARB Transfer Case guard only offers protection to the base of the transfer case but doesn't offer protection for the Actuator.
Browns Davis makes an Transfer Actuator guard but is around $400 alone. Ours has been designed to allow airflow and access to the transfer drain plug without removal. And at more than half the price of the Browns Davis one.

While fitting my guards on the weekend I thought I would do some weights of things.

With the new guards still in the box they came in the weight on the bathroom scales was 24.9kg. Now after fitting the new guards and putting everything that came off back in the same box the weight was now 12.4kg.

So this means the new guards are twice as heavy as the OME ones but it only means an extra 12.5kg is added to the vehicle weight.

Interesting read VKPrado, would the 12.5kg effect the standard suspension/handling in any way? I wouldn't think this would be heavy enough to effect anything as the weight is distributed rather than in 1 place.
Unfortunately the house where i live has a standard height garage and i have about 10mm clearance to the top of the car when i drive in.
This means i am unable to get any aftermarket suspension with any lift (still using stock), this also means when offroad some deep tracks mean the car is pretty much on the ground sometimes and i can just see 1 misplaced rock causing me problems one day.
As i cant raise the car to prevent damage I was perhaps looking at something like the ARB protection to hopefully prevent any damage.
I was just wanting not to lose any more clearance, if i can fit these, gain protection and not lose height or handling IM IN!

The ARB protection has been out a while, has anyone got an opinion on it after having it installed? Regret their purchase? or think an alternative is better, Ironman?

I have an Ironman kit coming in for mine.. You are welcome to check it out once I put it on.. we are in the same city.. ha ha
You can beef up your suspension without a lift

That's a lot lighter than the ironman ones, they quoted me 36kgs for theirs. I ended up with a replacement bash guard from mine corp, 4mm and only $150.

I thought 40kg was too much for the standard springs with dual battery. The bash plate hit the deck quite a few times on fraser, more than my old Subaru!

Mate got the same situation and was recently at Fraser and at standard height I spent a lot of time on the belly and totalled the factory guard. Has anyone got any feedback on the ARB solution as I am looking at one of them.
