Is the fridge slide easy enough to detach if you want to leave the floor in? A DIY one would be cheaper but harder to remove I would imagine.

Not really. As you can imagine it needs to be attached well to support the fridge extended. There are several screws and bolts holding the slide on to the base. Much easier removing the three bolts holding the base to the car and removing it all together. Only takes a couple of minutes.

when trying to line up the bolts for the holes I ended up putting the bolts into the bolt holes, and then putting the cut out ply onto the bolts and giving it a light hit aprox where the bolts were. Leaves an impression on the wood.

Another suggestion I was given is to put some white paint on the bolt heads so the tap on the ply leaves a paint mark.

Hi Purdo, I am trying to figure out the best way fit a fridge / drawer and water tank system in our Prado. It is a 2012 Kakadu.

We need to keep the third row seats, and want the system to be easily removable. We have 60 Litre Engel that we would fit on the left hand side, then to the right a 2 draw system with table slide. Drifta and ORS do one, but nobody has come up with a removable version.

Would you have any idea's or photos on how you have done yours. Not sure how to fix to the floor in the Kakadu? Also, we don't want any open spaces to either side of the drawer system.

Any help appreciated.

Yep - fridge slide attached to the floor and the floor attached separately to the bolts in the car.

Damn Dave - wished I had thought of that earlier. Luckily my measuring was accurate as I was only out a couple of mm.

Fridge was used for a week trip - couldn't be happier

Thanks to Sandrunners lead i had a crack at the base and fridge slide. With three kids we needed to maintain the use of the rear seat so this was a great solution. While i have great admiration for those that have made their slides them selves i resorted to the ORS. While it is not cheap it is built solid and prevented hours of me swearing if i had tried it my self.










my extra hints for those wanting to do it
1. dont forget to cut your ply a few mm thinner to allow for the marine carpet to get a good fit
2. I used a staple gun and hot glue gun to hold down the carpet and a layer of felt under to prevent any rubbing on the seats
3. aligning the hole to match with the existing tie down bolt thread is fun - no simple answer but measure, measure, measure

haha yeah, give it a crack anyway. It sure beats paying $300 for a pre made slide, and now I can safely say its just as solid and smooth as a pre made slide.
I'm glad I saved $200 and did it myself!

Good work SD. I am going to have to do this for the fridge in the Rodeo. Someone is sick of climbing up on the tailgate to get into the fridge. Not sure it will make that much difference though as the lack of vertical displacement will be the same!
