  • GX Side Steps

Anyone had any experience with these? Killa Concepts side steps.

    Are they decent?
Do you have any other recommendations?
Have you had a good/bad experience with these people before?

    Thanks!

In the end I found a genuine set of a GXL on gumtree for $150. They were an easy install - 30 mins / 1 person.

If anyone else is considering it :

The mounting bolts are already present on the GX.
You will need to remove the very small front mud guard (see pic) for them to fit. A similar sized guard comes as part of the steps.
They only fit one way, so you can't stuff it up.

    Cheers.

i got some of these steps as i didn't have time to wait around for any genuine ones that folks might be selling. They do a pretty good job at imitating the originals to be fair and are easy to fit into the existing mounting holes. the only downsides are:

-build quality is not quite as good as Toyota obviously but close enough.
-there is no provision for the side air bag sensor in the mount like the originals however this is easily rectified by using the original GX mounting plate as a template and drilling out the new side step mount so the sensor can clip in.
-they don't have the little mudguard things on them (whatever they are for)
2013 (12 build) GX Auto.......with safari snorkel, toyota bar, tow bar, roof racks, led spots with fancy newpro switchgear, uniden remote UHF and aerial, ARB bash plates, Roadsafe recovery points, digoptions radio, general grabber AT2s, cheap ebay roof rack that has stood up surprisingly well.....

hmmm maybe its not a side airbag sensor but on the centre mounting points on the GX on the passenger side there is a bracket with a grey plastic sensor looking thing that is wired into the loom. Its on the GXLs too but affixed to the side step mount in the same position. i do have the 7 seat option so perhaps its something to do with that???!

Does anybody know what this is?

Oh the light plug. I forgot about that.

The standard steps are much better than the arb ones. I regret irreparably bending my stock ones: not that it was on purpose but still.

I suppose the fact I carted them 3500km taking up the entire boot and second row of seats because they told porkies about fitment, and then they didn't even fit them correctly has left a sour taste in my mouth.

But.. They're not wide enough. They sit substantially closer to the body so as a step I don't find them useful which is a shame cause I always use the step.

I parked next to a bloke with a TJM set up the other week and his stuck out further.

Tjm steps sit out a bit more and also sit higher as they go around the sill not underneath like the ARB ones.

I am happy with the TJM steps the only thing that needs to be addressed is the alloy step cover is sharp from being guillotined and needs to be linished or covered. Once that is done they are fine.
