I'm concerned the shorter 42100B will be too short as it's only 1528mm long. The bags will just fit on the shorter rack with a small overhang but that leaves little room for storage boxes and other items. They tell me the longer one will not obstruct the sunroof from operating but would appreciate some user feedback. Also are eye bolts all you need to tie down tents, etc or would side rails be better?
The longer 1900+ fits perfectly. In the picture you'll see the roof bag. Inside is a F30 Jet-tent (150cm long), Sidewalls for the tent, 4 self inflatables, poles, tarps, mesh, sleeping bags, 4 chairs, 1 Table). I've got the side rails, but don't need them stricly for this roof bag, however, they are handy if you don't use a bag. This time I would get the combo front and half sides, very practical insurance incase of sudden breaking.

PS: The platform does not obstruct the sunroof at all

I ended up taking the smaller platform back yesterday and ordered the larger platform. Hopefully will be in stock later today or Monday.

Talking with the manager of Roof Racks Galore who has the larger platform on his 150 Prado, identical to craigm's, he agreed that the larger rack will make some wind noise when unloaded, but once the space between the slats is covered with whatever you are carrying, the majority of the noise goes away.

To go to a six leg mounting system down the road though would be a costly exercise, because not only would I have to buy the six mounting legs, I would also have to buy the 3 cross bars and associated bits for mounting.

    Thanks to those who replied

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has used a roof top tent with one of the 1928x1236 racks. Currently considering a wind cheetah rack, but with the rhino being a few hundred dollars cheaper, and probably more common, it could also be an option as well if it is up to the task.

    Hi tdprado,
I had that size on my Challenger and it made no noise at all. I thinking of putting on the Prado if Toyota they ever get unf to delivering it to me.

I did a Nullabor crossing last year with my Expanda on the back and use the rack for extra fuel, fishing holder, shovel and firewood and it worked a treat.

I have the 15xx by 19xx platform cause I have a long and wide kayak. It is not mounted on the roof rails but on the 6 mounting points on the roof once the roof rails are removed. Going to a bigger platform will also reduce what you can carry. So you'll need to strike a balance somewhere.

I purchased the recommended 1928 x 1236 Platform for the purpose of carrying my BW Turbo tent up top of my 120 (1.43m long) which I intend on transporting with other misc camping gear inside a large Rhino luggage bag (1.5m x 1.1m). Add to that a space case across the back for spares etc and some jerrys or gas bottle and the platform is full. I cant imagine a shorter platform suiting my needs and also cant imagine it being less noisier for that fact either. If I ever go down the path of getting an 30sec Oztent then I would require a fairly long platform also as they are quite lengthy, so that box is ticked.

  • Rhino Rack Pioneer Tray - which size did you buy and why?

I purchased a Rhino Rack Pioneer platform yesterday, model # 44100B
    Size - 1528mm x 1236mm
I am using the SXB feet from my Sportz bars for mounting purposes for now, eg: only 4 anchor points.

    There is also the larger size 44102B - 1928mm x 1236mm
Again, I would only be using the four anchor points for now.

Not sure if I purchased the right size though. Would sure like some feedback from people who have used one of these racks on a 150 Prado. Is the smaller one versatile enough?

Originally intended to carry a second spare wheel, plus maybe Max Trax, awning and shovel. This would be pretty close to the 75kg weight limit for the Prado roof rails, and the smaller Pioneer platform.

Would it be better having the extra space for lighter items that would take up a larger area one day?
Does the larger platform cause wind noise? Does the smaller one for that matter? The vehicle appears as though it would be more streamlined with the smaller platform.

Did you buy the smaller platform, and now wish you had the larger one, or vice versa.

Anyone who has one of these platforms, I would value your opinion.
