Rhino Rack Pioneer Tray - which size did you buy and why?

We have the Tradie rack in 19xx by 12xx. Went for the larger size basically to keep our options open and not restrict what we can carry. the open ends make it easy to load/unload and allow longer stuff to be chucked on the rack. with some eye bolts its easy to tie stuff down. we are using the 6 feet supplied by rhino that replaces the rails, they were relatively simple to fit.
The rack sits level with the ground, I think it looks fine but more importantly its a lot more practical to have it this way, and the awning sits level rather than sloping towards the front of the car. cant really see why you would want it sloping with the roof.

I've had the "Tray" basket type fitted with the backbone mounting. Looks good and works well. On the facelift 150.

I've got the platform but the regular mount into the existing bars. As a result it follows the roofline. Looks great to me.

I don't know why you'd want the rack to run parallel with the roof given its slanting forward.

Admittedly it probably is a bit of a wind damn but I'd much prefer a level platform vs one leaning forward with the roof.

No, I got the 1.9m version. Backbone does look better but I wanted to be able to get my hands under the sides of the rack.

Really don't think Rhino designed this product well. There's no reason they couldn't come up with feet that allow the rack to run parallel to the roof

I assume that you have bought the 2.1m long version. The 1.9m version won't look so bad.
Try the Backbone. It looks better.

I've got a 2009 Kaka and was looking at platform racks for a while. I really liked the look of the Rhino platforms that clamped onto the roof rails, and went to buy one, but when time came to purchase I opted instead for a heavier duty tradie platform that requires removal of the roof rails and sits on the 6 feet.

I am VERY disappointed.

I had assumed the rack would run parallel to the roof like the ones clamped to the roof rails but that is not the case. Instead, for some reason, Rhino designed my rack to run parallel to the road, regardless of the roof line (and regardless of the fact that roads are never level). So I now have a freaky looking rack that looks like it tilts upwards towards the front of the car, and is 30mm higher at the front than at the back. It is like a reverse spoiler and has increased my fuel consumption way more than a roof rack should, especially with the wide planks on the platform.

When I collected the car from the installer, I immediately thought it looked wrong, so we both checked the specified mounts from Rhino, and discovered he had done what they required. It was just a lousy design. I contacted Rhino customer service to express my disappointment and they were hopeless. They said they have no solution to the problem, and said that if I tried to change the mounts to get a more efficient rack, I'd lose my warranty.

Gee, thanks boys. Its not like I forked out a shit load of $$$ on your product. Not happy.

They do leave a bit of a flat mark on the paint but a quick hit with some polish completely removed the marks on the bro in laws 150, the feet had been fitted for 4yrs and we took them off 3mths ago.

has anyone removed there rhino legs after there been fitted for along time? I'm just wondering does the dust/grit get between the rhino legs and the paint work and leave marks or wear out paint were the legs have been fitted ?

Rhino Rack Pioneer Tray - which size did you buy and why?

Width shouldnt be a problem, my feet attach to the 3 cross bars not the frame so assuming these are common to all platforms it would work. I fitted a 45107 Rack to mine which lines up pretty well where the roof ends at the rear door. I could move its position for or aft by re-drilling the mounting locations on the frame and moving the cross bars.

Is it possible to fit any of the slightly wider models to a Prado 150? Eg is see there is a model 42103B that is 1928 x 1376, which is 140mm wider than the "recommended" 1236mm that shows up on the website as being compatible with the Prado 150. But is it possible to fit these wider models? I ask because I'm looking at occasionally carrying a lightweight car topper dinghy that is very slightly wider than 1236mm. Also, is the positioning of this platforms "set"? IE is there any flexibility in the fore/aft placement as I need this to be located aft to slide the boat on from the rear. The Pioneer Roller looks handy to assist with this plan.

Hey mate, l have just returned from a trip out to Birdsville/Innamincka and back to Brisbane and I have got the 1928x1236 and I carried swags, shovel, awning and plenty of firewood on mine without a problem.
