I've got the Yakima Holdup 2 on mine. Folds up nicely when not in use and clears the spare wheel easily. It drops down so you can open the boot (without the bikes on). It's also suited for carbon / composite frames as it clamps the bike with no frame contact (all done on the wheels). I have also got the +2 extension so I can have up to 4 mountain bikes on the car.

I've got the holdup 2 on mine without a hitch extender. I've taken the cover of the spare but looking at the clearance I don't think it would make any difference.

Thanks a lot for that. I didn't think it would clear. Looking at getting one in the next week or 2 so might go ahead and grab 1st and test it.
You don't have any picks of it fitted handy do you?

Thread resurrection - trying to contact ISI Bike Carriers - their website has no phone number and their contact form is not working for me.
Anyone have a phone number for them?
I've located their contact details on another forum and have made contact with ISI Bike Carriers - quick and helpful response - mulling over the price at the moment before deciding!! PM me if anyone want their contact details.

Cheers mate, looks like there's plenty of clearance. I take it there's no clearance issues with peddles and handle bars on the back door?

I would go with the gripsport over the ISI. I have it and nearly lost my bike off the rack on a corrugated road. The frame locking arm rode up the steel upright. ISI answer was to use a piece of shock cord on the frame locking arm and supply slightly longer T bolts. If you look at the grip sport they have modified the frame locking arm with straps to overcome the same problem.
ISI are aware of the problem though will not admit to it.

Do you tighten the T bolts by hand? I have never had an issue but I use a ring spanner to give a good solid turn on the T bolt.

Hi wv1 - thanks for your advice. I'll look at the Gripsport also. From what I read from ISI, they appear to have attended to the issue with an upgraded cradle design (without admitting to a previous issue) - the website has not been updated but there is minor reference to a new 2016 model. The Gripsport is a better priced, but from a quick look doesn't "appear" to be as sturdy as the ISI?? Anyway, for further consideration. Cheers again.

No not at all. I have been really happy with it. The only thing you have to make sure you do is with the arm that clamps down the front wheel have that nice and close to the front shock / fork, if you don't the bike tries to jump out of the carrier, not that it can go anywhere. The way it's set up the bike nearest the car has it's handle bars on the passenger side so away from the spare.

I have done a fair bit of research into the right racks for regular use being a keen mountain biker. My issue with the ISI and Grip Sport racks (a good mate has an ISI rack on his FJ) is that they don't fold away, so you have to take them off when you are not using them. They are both really solid racks though my mate loves his ISI.

The Yakima Holdup ticks all the boxes, A really solid bit of kit, folds away so you can leave it on the car. Built in cable locks and a built in bottle opener for the end of ride beers. And from what I remember it is cheaper than the other two.

Until recently a key difference between Gripsport and ISI - and a main reason we went with the ISI 4X4X4 - was that ISI could fold down (including with bikes on) giving access to the Prado rear door. But having just checked the Gripsport website their new Tilty option looks good and easier to operate if you're only wanting to carry 2 bikes. https://www.gripsport.com.au/product...r-tilty-2-bike

The ISI has been good for us - rock solid but the trade off is it's very heavy, challenging to store and the fold option is really a 2 person job

Does the Yakima clear the spare wheel? Otherwise it looks good.

I have decided to sell my 2 bike ISI bike carrier as it is too hard to lift electric bikes to the height of the rack so going for a lower rack with ramp to wheel bikes on. If anyone interested I am in Beaconsfield Vic.
