Which bike rack?

Sold the ISI and now have the Yakima holdup 2 and a lot happier. What I did not like about the ISI is that it does not foldup. I was always worried about it sticking out when parked with no bikes on it. Could always imagine a driver backing into it or worse a kid coming screaming around the car on a bike and running into it. The Yakima can be left on the car folded with no problems so much so that I leave it on unless going on a long trip without bikes etc. Not sure how the Yakima would go on a lot of corrugations but there again the ISI did not handle that well anyway.
Would have prefered a lower rack than either for the electric bike but the Yakima is easier as both bikes are at the same level whereas with the ISI I had to lift over the outer higher bar and lower the bike to the inner bar. A movement that is harder on the back.

Here's hoping i know how to put photo's up... but FWIW we've got a Thule 929 G6 Euroclassic bike rack that holds 3 bikes, and can have an adaptor added for a fourth bike. It's mainly for the other car, but works well with the 150. It's great for solid fire trails - very steady. This is even though the mount is onto the ball, not in the hitch.
I originally only wanted a hitch-mounted one, as previous experience with the ball-mount Thule style had the thing swinging away and not solid enough. After being pushed and offered a month-long trial run, I went with this one and it's great. I wouldn't bother going to the hitch-style again as there are too few options like this. They are expensive (about $1200 RRP with the 4th carrier $220 RRP) but regularly get to $980-odd on sale.
The rear door opens well enough for me to get the 4 year olds bike out, and more. It won't open fully - so if you have a fridge slider this is not for you. But I'm happy with it. It's close to the rear wheel cover, but it didn't hit it when we went on some decent fire trails that were limited only by the rear overhang this thing has.
Fully anticipate the photo's to not work! Hence the description length if anyone was looking at getting one. I'd buy this one again for the Prado, even though it was bought for a lifting-tailgate car.
OMG! It worked! Hurrah!

Also have the Thule 928 compact, with the 4th bike extension. Best rack I've ever used and I've tried a lot over the years. Did need a long hitch to get it away from the spare wheel.
Really easy to use and really well made.,just a bit pricey. But pays for itself in ease of use and lack of damage to the bikes.Steve

Reviving an old thread.
We are currently looking for a new hitch mount 2 bike carrier for our 2005 Prado 120 with factory fitted hitch receiver.
I have had my eye on the Yakima range like Hold Up 2, Holdup 2 EVO or DR Tray. They seem rather sturdy are ok priced and seem to have the features. But a few shops I have asked them about fitting it to the Prado 120 and they say it wont work with the Prado and the spare wheel on the back.
But looking at earlier posts on this thread, a few of you seem to have used them and had good results with the earlier model Yakima Hold Up rack. The photos looked like it folded up ok etc.
Has anyone used the newer model Yakima hitch carrier on the 120 model with any issues?
Thanks, Nathan.

Step up to the big boy racks, and away from the kiddy stuff that struggles with some rear door mounted tires and things.

I've just decided to go with this Yakima one. Swings out so you can still get into the back of the vehicle even with the bikes on the rack. Also fits past the spare with cover on too!

Have a look at them! Also made here in Melb. Great service. Seen all sorts of mods to fit them to caravans. Ours clears rear tyre on Prado. Great!

I'm still happy with my ISI and its just completed another 5000 km journey. Including over 900 kms in the Victorian and NSW High country on some super rough and steep roads. No issues to the bikes on it or any damage/ problems.
However I changed to a Shingleback rack for shuttle runs when taking the downhill bikes out. Easier to carry more bikes and easier and quicker to load. Tire clearance (bike tyre) isnt as good as the ISI, but for shuttling, they are far superior. https://shinglebackoffroad.com.au/?g...AaAs9CEALw_wcB
