  • Double DIN installation in 2010 GX

    Hi all,
I'm looking for some guidance on fitting a double DIN head unit to my 2010 GX prado. Mainly because I can't get the stupid Bluetooth to connect to my ZTE phone. Need this phone for the external AE port.

I want the following functions to be available:
    Bluetooth, bluetooth, bluetooth
GPS - Both Street navigation and OZIExplorer - This unit is fitted with Polnav, never heard of it... is this a good nav application?
    Reversing Camera

    I'm looking at
    http://www.elinz.com.au/buy/toyota-c...s-prado/toyota
http://www.elinz.com.au/assets/image...D321TOYOTA.jpg along with this harness http://www.elinz.com.au/assets/image...D321TOYOTA.jpg

    A few questions:
How do I remove the fascia?

Do I need to purchase a new fascia for the GX and if so, which one and where are they available?

Are there any known issues generally with wiring harness adaptors or is it a straight plug n play?

Does the GX have the camera wiring already installed in the loom to the rear?

I can't find any details on the Elinz website on the GPS antenna supplied (apart from a pic), does it need to be installed with a clear view of the sky or can it be mounted high up on the underside of the dash (Beneath the plastic)?

I appreciate there's a lot of questions in this post but I'm also trying to get my thoughts in some sort of coherent order before I start buying all the goodies

    Thanks in advance

Facia is easy to remove, start by pulling on the a/c controls straight out, they are clipped in and do take a little force.

The unit is a direct fit for the GX, no adapter facia needed by the looks.
The loom also looks like the factory loom by that pic, the only thing I'm uncertain of is the steering wheel controls, but does yours have them?

Not sure if the factory wiring is there for the camera, but it will probably be easier to just run the supplied loom. The factory camera runs off different voltages so probably won't be suitable anyway.

Usually for GPS antennas, I run them up the passengers a pillar and stick them to the top of the windscreen, behind the visor and out of the way. Gets great reception there and doesn't look unsightly stuck to the dash.

Hopefully that has answered your questions. It really shouldn't be hard to instal at all. If you are unsure just ask, you can't be that far from me.

      Thanks Andy,
Yes you've set my mind at ease. Reading all the threads it was difficult to sort GX from GXL installs with their different requirements.
The GX is the base model and doesn't have steering wheel controls. The A pillar sounds like a good spot, well out of the way. I was visualising an antenna bouncing round on the dash
Again, thanks for the info..... btw, I'm in Mutdapilly, not quite Ipswich.... and seems a fair bit hotter

Mutdapilly isn't that far, the folks are just up the road at rosewood, friends out at mt walker

Yeah, I know the GX, brother in law has a 11/09 GX with awesome cheese cutter wheels. Although it's starting to look more like a GXL with my left over GXL parts like steps and roof rails. I just couldn't remember if it had any steering wheel controls.

Offer stands mate, if you're stuck or unsure shoot me a PM, I usually check in every second day at most.

That's a sharp price, I'm guessing you'll just go without SWC? Let us know how that all goes.

            Is SWC Steering Wheel Controls?
As mentioned previously, the GX isn't fitted with Steering Wheel Controls as standard.
Which price are you referring to?

              Yeah mate 'steering wheel controls'.
I followed the link and that's a good price foe the unit. I have the GX also and I'd be interested to hear how well (or not) the unit suits the job.

                Bicter,

There are a few GX installs on here - and alot of GXL+ installs where they have relocated the stereo to the GX position. Most I have seen stick the GPS antenna on top of the dash (under the plastics though) with double sided tape / velcro and have no troubles with reception.

There's no reverse camera wiring in the GX.

Have a look here for my GPS unit install http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-in-150-Series

the GPS unit can actually sit under the black central dashboard bit (the section that looks like it might have a speaker under it) and get perfectly good reception if you want to keep it really neat...

I've only just been game enough (and had sufficient time ) to pull the fascia off the OEM radio. Once I'm happy with fitment etc, I'll be running the cabling to the rear view camera first and installing a camera before I purchase the replacement radio.
Does anyone know what sort of cabling is appropriate for the camera run from camera to head unit?

It usually comes with the camera in my experience.

Yep the camera should come with its own cable.
