Just bought the 450 and the UHF supplier said the 440 is a top UHF and the 450 is just an improvement. He said nothing wrong with either but the 450 is smaller if that helps.

I have a 120 so am now trying to figure out the best place to mount it. Any suggestions where to hide it.

Does anyone know if the ICOM 440 /450 cabling is compatible with CAT6 cabling. I would like to use a CAT6 dash mount connection https://goo.gl/3TnZBW

Yep I tried this with an IC-440 sometime ago using a Cat6 cable and joiner and it worked as per normal.

Looks like an 8p8c RJ45 outlet . Pretty standard outlet , as long as the plug is an RJ style like any standard phone or computer lead it will work. Cat 6 should be good for 250Mhz.

Did something similar with the 440n and a $2 RJ45 socket painted black.
Installed in the blanking plate next to the 4wd controls.
Used the extension cable that was included and cut one end and re-terminated in the socket.
Works a treat and the handset can be easily and tidily removed when in wife mode.

We are quite often asked; "did your car come with internets??"..

Matt is 250Mhz good or bad - nor sure what it means?

Any electrical wholesaler will have them. Got mine from one starting with J. It's two pieces, the rj45 keystone and the outer bit. I can't find a description or link for the outer bit, but if you take a pic they'll work it out. They're used for fitting sockets in to desks for office fit outs.

Word of warning, there is no room for error for the hole cutout.. There's only about 1/2mm of overhang..

Take one Uniden and swap it for an Icom 450n, then note there is an Icom 440 on the LHS. Both sit under the centre console.

The 450n is the bees knees and I no longer have the issues I was experiencing with the Uniden.

I didn't, as when I tried to figure out what it was for, there was no details on page 19 that explained it. So I rang Lake Macquarie Communications who I bought it from to ask them and Doug said forget about it, it wasn't needed.

Same was said about the other connections on the back of the radio, not needed, just the plus and negative wires to give it power. So far I have only given it a brief test and it was all working fine, with clear reception and nice volume on the speaker in the hand piece.

                              Hi,

Does anyone have the dimensions of the Ic-450 transceiver, the manual says 125mm x 29mm x 180mm.

Is this correct? or is this the size of the box the entire unit, microphone etc, comes in?

I'm trying to figure out where I can install the unit before I go ahead and buy one.

The above dimensions seem massive compard to other units/brands.

                              thanks.

Just measured mine as I'm swapping it between cars and that's the correct dimensions. The 180mm depth does include the protruding heatsink and aerial connection etc.
