G'day guys, just looking for suggestions, on replacing the second battery, under the bonnet of my 150 gxl. Currently it has a 65ah, think its a century, wet cell deep cycle.. Hooked up to a redarc bcdc40amp, which also runs to the Anderson plug for the camp trailer.. The room is limited, under the bonnet, and wondering if anyone has managed to fit anything a bit bigger, as in amp hrs.. Or has any suggestions.. Thanks Odog

I notice you are in Quenbeyan, the guys out at Gibbs Auto electrical just yesterday put a Century marine Pro 720 in my 120 Series. it is 100ah and they are on sale at BCF at the moment for 20% off. I am charging mine with a BCDC 1225 not the 1240 so not sure if this battery would be suitable for the bigger redarc charger. Might be worth asking anyway.

Gentlemen,
DCDC chargers don't charge at there maximum rate all the time, as the battery charges it will reduce its current draw, the maximum you'll see is 40A in the case of a 40A charger.
Marine pros are designed to charge of an alternator, if the battery is low the intial charging current will be a lot higher than 40 amps. Connecting it to a 40A charger shouldn't be an issue, however there have been posts of faulty 40A Redarc chargers causing overcharging issues on other forums.Last edited by LeighW; 19-02-2016, 01:11 PM.HKB Electronics, manufacturer of the Alternator Voltage Booster, Silver 2008 D4D,Lifted,Underbody protection, Alternator Voltage Booster, Tiger Z winch, Lightforce DL, Air Horns, Tanami Drawers, Drop down fridge slide, Outback cargo barriers, Rotronics dual Battery system, Polaris GPS, HF/UHF/VHF, Radio speaker combiner, Long ranger water tank, Diff breathers, Inverter, Snorkel and others

Piranha show fits ST27DC95 which is 304x174x225, N70T = 306x171x222 they are
very similar sizes, I'd be very surprised if the tray wasn't larger by a few mm.HKB Electronics, manufacturer of the Alternator Voltage Booster, Silver 2008 D4D,Lifted,Underbody protection, Alternator Voltage Booster, Tiger Z winch, Lightforce DL, Air Horns, Tanami Drawers, Drop down fridge slide, Outback cargo barriers, Rotronics dual Battery system, Polaris GPS, HF/UHF/VHF, Radio speaker combiner, Long ranger water tank, Diff breathers, Inverter, Snorkel and others

Even with the marine pro 620 which i think is about 285 mm i still needed to move it about 5-10 mm
The new 2.8l TD has a different aircon pipe design - probably due to all the complaints. You can now propably fit a 125Amp in there. Im stuck with a 60Amp.
I had 2 batteries that I used for camping - so was not about to blow $300 on a new one.

- had to add a large-flat bar on-top of battery, as the ARB bracket bent as the battery is "thinner" than the yellow-top designed for the ARB bracket.

Yeah, I haven't been game enough to move (ie bend) my aircon pipe - it is "just" touching the battery tray and I know that's not a good situation.

unbolted the bracket holing the pipe clamp and bolted the new plate to the existing threaded hole where the clamp was.
Bolted the clamp to to the new plate in the second hole.
From memory the plate i made was 20mm X 40 mm the holes were spaced about 10mm apart so it moved the pipe clamp about 10 mm as the pipe clamp is rubber mounted i flexed back a bit..
i did not bend the pipe i just pushed it out.
Would of liked a bigger battery but did not want to push the pipe out any further.
As it is the 75AH battery meets my requirements.
2-3 days running the fridge as a freezer depending on temp before low voltage cutout.
Not very often the car would sit for 2 days without being driven when we are away, but have a solar panel to use if parked up for a couple of days.
