Tyre Pressure Monitors (TPM)

Does anyone have any experience with 'off the shelf' TPMs. Which brands are best? Do they work?
The main usages for me would be: monitoring the tyres off road, reminding me I have lowered the pressures, puncture warning etc.

No issues. Display unit is small so can be tucked in more obscure places. You can set high and low pressure warnings and can silence the alarms as well. Displays tyre temp and voltage of main battery (probably not very accurate).

You can really see how the tyre pressures change with the ambient temp every day. What was 40 psi on a 33 deg day drops to 32 psi on a 22 deg day.

A good idea for safety. I had a slow leak in the front driver's side tyre from a nail. Because 4wd tyres don't often reveal how low the are by a quick visual inspection, I discovered it when I had to brake really hard from about 70km and the rim spun in the tyre. They have TPM's that plug into the cigarette adaptor too. The only maintenance item would be replacing the batteries in the sensors every now and then.

I was looking at getting one for mine after having a blowout not long after I got my car.

On the devices that screw onto the tyre valve, you have to remove it in order to change the pressure. The kits usually come with the lock nut tool and wrench to remove.

Limited clutter from more gadgets on the dash is a bonus. The only downside to these ones is the limit on how low you can set the alarm. 24psi is the lowest for the Steelmate indash TP-05. Frustratingly some of their other TPMS products have alarms you can set down to 10 psi.

I've got one of these from digoptions http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...iew-DigOptions with internal sensors for all 8 tyres. Works really well. If it saves one tyre from a slow leak blowout then it has paid for itself.

I also use the tyredog with 6 sensors so it monitors my camper trailer as well. Works really well. Set it at 20psi for low pressure and 60 degrees for temperature. Have had it for over 2 years. Worked a treat for me in the Flinders last year when got a slow puncture coming out of Parachilna gorge. Enabled me to pull and get the car on the jack before the tyre was damaged. Wouldn't be without it.

I use Sensa Tyre to monitor 5 tyres on the Prado and 3 on the Tvan. Works quite well however the transmitters are on a large hose clamp style device around the rim so you need to remove and refit all your tyres which adds to the expense. Advantage is there is no large sensor on the valve stem waiting to get knocked off when in the rough stuff (however a friend has the exterior valve stem style and he has never had any problems and we generally travel the same tracks)

I use some steelmate ones from repco. Have served me well for 18 months.
Only failings I have are that sometimes the signal drops out on a tyre and you get an annoying beep and the other is that the valves with the sensors bounce around a bit and have scratched my rims

I use ones from Inawise. http://www.inawise.com/tpms-comparison.html I have the TP-203 and monitor the 5 tyres on the prado and 3 on the trailer. Very easy to set a pressure for all tyres at once and easy to move them around on the sensor when tyres are rotated.

We've got a Sensatyre one for our Prado & Tvan - works really well.
