  • Genuine Toyota snorkel on new 2.8l 150

Hi all. First post for me.
In the que for a white 2016 GXL, 4 week wait..
Anybody have a genuine snorkel fitted ? I've never seen one in the flesh, wondering what they are like, has a similar body to Safari but with a different ram head style.

Seen this snorkel on a prado the other day and I was wondering what / where it was from. Thought it must of been some eBay special. It look good because it was a little different. Now I know, what is the price like . I assume only for 2.8 and not 3.0

My neighbour just bought the new sr5hilux. Same engine 2.8L and had a test drive of the hilux at the yard which had a Toyota snorkel fitted up. He has taken delivery already of his hilux but held off on the snorkel as he said it was extremely noisy while under acceleration and found it pretty intrusive. He is trying to find some one with a safari snorkel to see whether there is any difference. Apparently the Toyota snorkel has a hole or holes at the back of the snorkel (pretty sure that's what he described) which is where most of the noise seem to be coming from ?? I presumed the holes would be to get rid of any water that entered the air ram (inlet). I know it's a different vehicle but may be some thing to check out first. He can still get the Toyota one fitted up if he wants to

Agreed, and if you catch TJMs 25% off sale you can get one supplied and fitted for less than a safari supplied only, and it looks the best. Safari look like they belong on a 1970s model.

And it's completely invisible and there is no wind or induction noise, if anything the engine tone is quieter (deeper).

I have the new sr5 with factory snorkel. Installing slimline weathershields deflects a lot of the noise, it's only really apparent with the window down now

Can you face the head on the genuine snorkel backwards? That's a big advantage on the safari in my opinion after owning a safari and also a tjm on 2 previous vehicles. Tjm cant be turned around.

Agree, the ability to spin the head around can be a big plus when on dirt roads for long periods of time.

                              Sounds to be suffocating..

It comes down to personal preference - I think the safari looks the goods and I like the subtle induction noise at certain times. I would absolutely get it again, but now there is the factory snorkel on the market I'd look into this option also.
