  • Recovery Point on 2017 GXL Prado with Factory Alloy Bullbar

Hi All, I am new to the forum, and the proud owner of a GXL Prado 2.8 ltr. I have been reading the forum for sometime, and am happy to now be part of the community. On my Prado I have the Toyota Factory fitted Alloy Bull Bar and have since been in contact with TJM and ARB to have rated front recovery points installed. They both said they cannot fit any to the Prado when it has the factory alloy bullbar installed. Has anyone come across recovery points which can be installed with the factory alloy bull bar... Many thanks Huzza

If you take a photo from the wheel well of the bullbar brackets, I can tell you if my recovery points will fit.

Hey amts do you have red points in stock to fit a 2012 with arb bar? If so will be in contact soon. And also a 20mm spacer for back door?

                Hey all,

New to the forum and getting my first 4WD set up. 2012 GXL with factory alloy bar and seem to be having the same problem as Huzza1971. Were you able to get points installed without having to remove the bar? If so, which ones?

                Thanks

Hi Simport no luck as yet. Arb said they could, 750$ and remove the bar to fit. So I wasn't eager on cost or removing the bar. Very frustrating.

                    Hi Huzza1971,

Have a look at this post by TheFloyd. He describes putting RP's on a 2017 GXL with factory bar in detail. I've put the same ones on my 2012 GXL with factory bar (roadsafe RP-PRA150). I used the big black washer from the front (bullbar) mounting bolt as well as 2 x 3mm thick M12 washers from Boltmasters (these ones I think) to space the RP off the rear bolt to make it flush.

Certainly didn't need to take off the bullbar! Took a bout 10mins per side to get them on.

Ive borrowed a mate's torque wrench to get them torqued up properly on the weekend! Happy to provide photos if you'd like.

                    Hope this helps

I have the Toyota alloy bullbar and fitted the Roadsafe ones too (got them for around $120 from E-bay). Same experience as simport, re-used the big black washers though I took about 15 minutes a side, but i have my own torque wrench so saved some time there

Im planning on putting the Roadsafe ones on on the weekend. Have had a quick look and plan on relocating the spacer to the rear. Toyota may have made my job easier as both my lower bullbar bolts are already loose (only finger tight).

Hi Simport many thanks. A couple of pics would be greatly appreciated if not too much trouble. Cheers

                            Hi Huzza,

Some photos for ya. I've only used 2 bolts per side (minimum required as per instructions), as the middle bolt hole doesn't line up with anything easily. You can see the wires attached to the nut plates protruding from the large square hole a little way back on the chassis. I left them on (bent out of the way) in case I need to retrieve the plates in future.

As mentioned in my previous post, to space the recovery point off the rear chassis attachment (to make it sit nice and flush against the front attachment) I used the large black washer from the front bolt as well as two 3mm thick M12 washers between the chassis and the RP as shown in photo 6. The washers on the OUTSIDE of the RPs (ie under the bolt heads) are the split and flat washers that came with the kit.

                            Hope this helps!
