  • ARB Twin Compressor

    Hi Guys,
I recently went to order a Arb twin compressor for my 2016 150 Prado. ( fitted in the rear behind the cargo panels)
the issue is that its listed to go in the 2017 model and above.
They said they would try and fit it but couldn’t guarantee fitment.
Does anyone know if it will fit ok or is the rear in the 2017+ different?
    cheers

I remember ARB also saying you cant do a suspension lift/ upgrade on a Prado Grande or Kakadu.. Likely it wouldn't be the first time they didn't know what they were talking about.

When they say the '2017 model' they mean the 2018 model built Sep/Oct 2017 on-wards. The configuration of the volume behind the rear left trim is unlikely to be any different, it's easy to check in a few minutes by taking the trim off and looking. The real work is in running cables thru door channels/under the carpet and thru the forward bulkhead. Someone at ARB somewhere must have done it for your model by now.

Newer models are technically a little different - eg. sealed LED headlights controlled by dedicated, and pricey, ECUs. Some Installers initially got burnt trying to install spot lights the old way. Anyone who blew one or more headlight ECUs would have been up for a few thousand to replace them.

Have a think about the cost of the twin compressor. I have the single model mounted under the drivers seat, so still relatively easy to access if necessary, lots of people mount them in the engine bay too. I can re-inflate my tyres from 28psi to 44psi in about 1min 45sec each tyre, so well under 10 minutes to do all four tyres. I just can't justify the high cost, you could spend the difference on another accessory, but that's ok if you don't agree.

Thanks for the reply’s. I’m on the fence if I want the twin or not.

I purchased the Twin ARB and 15psi to 44psi took 5 minutes but the real reason was redundancy - knowing that if one cylinder fails the other one keeps going. For me it's value for money, twice the capacity for twice the price. It's a quality unit that's for sure.

Seen WAY too many ARB compressors snapping the crank pin and failing. No quality in their compressors. Been a known issue for over 10 years and still happening. VIAIR compressors are way better value for money and 100% reliability.
