Why after all the talk, talk and more talk is it quite clear to all that your budget simply didnt allow for any other bar to be considered?
You have bought the bay on ebay for as little as possible, fitting yourself to save labour costs, and putting in spacers rather than replace your suspension (is this even legal in QLD?).

Please correct me if im wrong but dont you have a Kakadu?? Certainly at the other end of the price spectrum to someone on a tight budget that only extends to a GX.

On the comments about MLC, whilst i tip plenty on him myself I do like the guy and even he wouldnt push his shit stirring this far.

I'm actually very serious about "my reasons" for going with the smartbar. I firmly believe that it is the strongest, safest and most practical bar available for "my needs". The claim that the bar will increase the chances of survival if I hit someone crossing the road was a big factor too. I really think its a massive technological advance in vehicle and pedestrian protection.

Do I think steel bars should be banned? No, I think they have a place, for people who use their truck as a work horses pushing over tree stumps and never see a pedestrian, I think they are really the only option.

However; I really think people like me who live in a city and only use it for a weekend a month and a couple of weeks holiday and drive city to city, I think we have a responsibility to consider safety and I'm sure in time more and more people will consider safety more. This is too much of a nanni state as it is and I'm not a big fan of bans, I think it's better to help people make better choices.

As for your disappointment, it saddens me greatly, to think I came that close to making a friend and blew it. Well it's really up to you, if you want to jump ship and rip me to bits like the rest of them, I will be sad but I'm sure I will survive.

But if you want to we could go to war and make it a real plastic v steel battle? What do you say?

Anyway, I'm going to start fitting the mighty Smartbar now and I will try to post some pics later to give the guys some more rocks to chuck at me!

Skywalker, interesting video particularly the head injury one.

I'm sure there'd be a lot more smart bars on vehicles if they looked better or people were less worried about appearance over function.

Those smart bars are amazing. You hit something and they push in, but eventually pop out. Thy remind me of ntp's head, so much stuff goes in, but eventually something intelligent pops out

I have just bought a new Smartbar on eBay for $750 and picking it up this arvo.

How many pedestrians are hit each year?

Australian road death toll in 2011 was 1,291 (Wikipedia, might not be accurate) and of those people who died 15-20% were pedestrians (safe drive directory, could be just a guess for all I know), so by my calculations thats around 193-258 people. It's a lot more than I thought and if thats how many people died there must of been a lot more that were hit by cars and survived.
