It's interesting to note the negative comments on the Smartbar. It would seem to me that they have done a reasonable job of the impossible (trying to make a good looking bar for the 150). Every bar that I have seen so far is ugly and that is the fault of the up swept headlights on the Prado. In my opinion the Smart bar is no worse looking that any of the others but it would seem to offer a few practical advantages over them.
The big question is "has anybody bought one yet?".
I had a TJM bar on my Landrover and that was one seriously strong bar.
I do not know which bar to buy for my 150. Maybe I should have bought a 120!!!!
    Cheers
    Tezza

Matt, I believe these are quite good at high speed. I know someone who has one on a Dark Green 90 series and it looks quite all right but then the design has changed. It does look better than that really crap looking Dame Edna job that Toyota bought out (sorry to anyone that has one but it is truley revolting). What the hell where they thinking with that?

I should also add I have no affliation with smart bar. I liked the concept when I discussed it with them last year as it's light weight but have to admit it's unlikely I will get one.

It's an opportunity lost I think.

Not that I need one especially, though did run down a deer that caused a lot of damage to my 'A' bar on my Land Cruiser some years ago ...... here in the UK - but I like the look of this one ...... not that any UK insurance company will have any dealings with such like on the front ....... but maybe if this is more protective - especially for humans they may reconsider....? Bull bars and the like a no no here in the UK - mostly for all the wrong reasons..... but what can you do?.....

Sure it looks smart. But is it? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see any increase in approach angle.

Is it also the black on white making it look worse? Black on black (or dark grey) or white on white could look better.

I think I know why it's ugly though, it's closely following the lines of the 150

Although I agree that is not a good looking bar, I must say having had a Smartbar on my Disco for 6 years they are a far superior bar to the steel or alloy bars. Hit a large roo once and it did absolutely no damage. They work like a snatch strap in reverse absorbing the impact and then bouncing back. Any small deformities in shape after a mild to medium impact disappear after an hour in hot sunlight.
Luckily I didn't experience a heavy impact so cant say how they handle one but I would be confident they would handle it better than steel or alloy. Just my opinion.
