Nothing gets past you Andrew. This is the exact reason I was asking. Not having done many water crossings I didn't want to look too silly. That said I guess my humble description of bow waves is in accordance with the comments above so I take some comfort in that.

Oh, I also take comfort in the fact YOU will be going through first lol

                hmm

They are not as good as your recent mods, but they are the next best option, tried and tested (but not rated lolol)

Feel free to make up a second set though and I will wear them proudly (and pay)

I'm currently on my way back from the Kimberly/Kakadu and have done 50ish crossings of various depths and no water that I have seen.

Re water crossing speed an important point to note is whether you're using a water bra or not. If not then you need to be careful of not flooding the engine bay with enough water that the fan can act like a propellor and pull itself forward into the radiator. If it does you'll just add to the rivers/creeks depth.

I'm no expert but I just give it enough to keep the thing moving provided that the bottom allows it.

the only problem i've had with water entry is through the two large grommets in the firewall where i've run 50 different wires through. partly my fault as i didn't silastic it all up as good as i should've.

other than that, never through the doors.

Good to see a 120 recovering a 100 series Andrew but I was surprised to not see an dampner on the strap...
Slackness, or was the water to cold?!?!

Andrewchose option B which involves small cuts at his end of the strap. This creates a weak point that, should the strap snap sends it hurtling toward the less valuable 100 series.

Is that why one should always carry 2 snatch straps. 1 for fellow Prado's and 1 for Pootrols etc....? (No doubt about it MLC, your'e a thinking man!)

Both recoveries in the pics above were really only a tow rather than a snatch, so didn't worry about tying chains or anything else on, I have snatched the same mate with the 100 series and we certainly set up everything spot on for that recovery as it took every ounce of power the Prado could muster to pull him out of the hole he was stuck in.

Any way he is now a former mate, bastard left for 7 weeks in the Kimberly last week while I stay at work, mumble grumble bloody work, bloody cold, damn people with long service leave, hate it all.

                            Cheers Andrew

                              Thanks everybody

Sounds like I should be moving through the water more quickly. The sign at the water's edge said low range, first gear! As a follow up, what gear/speed do you normally tackle deep water crossings to get the bow wave action? It's pretty hard to stand back and say 'go a bit faster' from the cabin.

I would have thought low first is too low. If you have an auto, just leave it in low range in drive. If manual, then low second would probably be a better choice.
