Can anybody in Melbourne who's dealt with this issue point me towards a good dealer who can supply and potentially fit the kit?

My guards aren't cracked and my car is bone stock (2012, ~70k), but I'm about to start kitting it out, and the idea of cracking guards doesn't particularly appeal to me I'm a big one for preventative maintenance.
I had mine done at Frankston Toyota as Nunawading and FTG had no experience with this issue, but Frankston had done one and they did mine a few years ago.

Thanks hulbyw. Do you happen to know whether the patches just bolt in, or is there welding required (I don't have cracked guards currently so no repairs needed)?

Thanks. Might be a stupid question but are the trailing numbers on the end quantities? There are duplicate part numbers in the list with same product code, and different trailing numbers on end of the description?

Patches bolt in. Welding only required when there is a crack. Reckon it is a good idea to do it before it cracks, although they don't all crack, just us select lucky ones

          • Sorry, long post here....

I feel that I can finally contribute something of a clarification on the part numbers involved this issue. I have spoken to multiple dealers in Melbourne and Toyota Australia (Customer experience centre). In Melbourne, I have found no Toyota parts or service personnel that know anything of the 150 Prado cracking in the apron/skirt/inner guard. They, for the most part, also seem to think that we Prado owners on the internet are making crazy stuff up and "you can't believe anything on the internet!"

I can say without any fear of contradiction that the part numbers quoted in this thread are available (March 2017). However, approaching your local parts person at the dealer with these part numbers you will likely be met with suspicion.

5373260060 Fr fender apron 1 is the Left Hand side apron/skirt/inner guard panel, which would bolt in as a reinforcement panel together with the existing panel.

I can confirm that 5373260060 is in the Toyota Australia parts system, however, it is not associated with ANY vehicle in their system. My experience was that I would give them the VIN of my car and they said it was "not compatible with your vehicle". There is no picture or description of this part, or a vehicle to associate it with ... which means that your average parts person will throw their hands up and say "naaaaaah". It wasn't until I insisted on getting one in and eyeballing it that I believed that Toyota's parts system can be so utterly crap. The "customer experience centre" confirmed that they had no idea about these parts either, saying I should go to a dealer to discuss my parts requirements. (They didn't know that's why I went to escalate to you...!) Frankly, I am unimpressed with the quality of service I have received from the vast majority of Toyota parts folks I have spoken to and the Service people also.

So, with the help of Brad (at Nunawading Toyota) who seemed to actually care, I have a LHS Apron panel. $130 something later. Honourable mention to Rhonda at Frankston Toyota (Parts) for helping me with trawling their system to no avail. Epic fail award goes to.... Waverley Toyota, what a bunch of prongs.

5373260060 Fr fender apron 1 (Left hand side apron panel)

I will post up a photo of the part a bit later. I am finally stumbling toward success, rather than just stumbling. Thanks for listening.

            • It's just unbelievable how hard this is. I am going through it now in Sydney and had a call back today from Phil Gilbert Toyota saying, "it's not a part that is available through the spares department, you need to book your car in to service department for an assessment and they will advise" this was after they spoke to Toyota Australia.

Do you only need that one part number or as listed before do you need a bunch of others grommets nits and flanges

              • The reason for all the difficulties is that by Toyota admitting that the part exists they would be admitting that the problem exists, with obvious consequences. It would be funny if it wasn't so painful.

                  Nailed it. 100%.

KarlCaudwell, these two pieces 5373160100 Patch Fr fender 1 (Right Hand side apron panel or repair panel), 5373260060 Fr fender apron 1 (Left hand side apron panel) are the actual metal panel parts (at least I can confirm 5373260060 is!!), the remaining parts are the hardware, nuts and bolts used to install the panels.

The panels are a second skin layer to add rigidity to the weak skirt/apron panel. You are experiencing the same level of customer service I have received from multiple dealers in Melbourne. I had the same answer, yet was able to purchase the LHS panel from ****the spare parts dept at Nunawading Toyota**** after the part was shipped from Sydney. Toyota Australia directed me to my local dealer, who is useless on all fronts.

My suggestion is to front up to the dealer with these part numbers and buy the bits - you might need to find a parts interpreter who actually gives a crap (harder than finding whale poo!). As in my post above, these parts do not have a vehicle or VIN series associated with them in Toyota Australia's system - no description, or photos, etc. They are orphan parts, which means they do not want to admit liability.

Very, very sad actions from a company that has quality, safety and honour in it's values. "Customer first spirit delivers quality" "trust is key" (from the global website).

                  • For what it's worth, I just logged on to www.amayama.com and punched in all those part numbers and saw that there was stock of most bits in various places ie Japan, UAE and Australia.

If you submit an order enquiry with them (you may have to register) they will get back to with prices and availability in a day or two.
I managed to source everything I needed except the RHS patch from them and even with international shipping it was still cheaper than buying from Toyota here in Oz when I went through this exercise about 12 months ago.

Might be easier than dealing with the dumbass parts people you have come up against.

                    Just my 2 cents worth.

                    • Thanks dobbo,
Anayama were very quick with their reply and quote. They have all the nuts and bolts but not the actual right side patch with no indication if when it would be in stock. Looks like it's back to dealing with the numptys at Toyota again. Damn this, it shouldn't be so hard.

                      • Got sick of calling dealerships so went into Stewart Toyota and got the patch and bits n pieces ordered and should arrive Tuesday (3 days). I forget exact price but it was about $250...... then to find a panel beater to fit the bloody thing.

Is the patch kit easy to install or do I need to go to a panel beater to have it fitted?

is your guard cracked? if not it's easy, just need to drill a few holes and bolt in. if it is I would sit it in and get the crack repaired, do both sides since they are available.

Cheers for the info leethal, I am also planning on fitting the patch kit as preventative maintenance (i.e. guards are not cracked yet). How much "stuff" (i.e. Battery, fuse box, airbox, etc) needs to be stripped from the inner guards to access the top of the bolts?

I have placed an order request for the patch kit through amayama, so will order when they send me the final price.
