  • If the weight of the battery is an issue and the body is mounted on rubber blocks, would adding a couple of extra rubber blocks between the body and the frame at the front end help support the body and stop or reduce the cracking? Just a thought.....

I had always thought that the body mounts were too soft, allowing too much flex between the body and chassis...... The Panel Beater that repaired mine reckons the opposite... He reckons that the mounts are not soft enough. He reckons because the chassis in these vehicles flex so much, the mounts are too hard and not helping enough with soaking up some of the flexing, he also went on to say that it also comes down to poor design in that area as well.....

      • I was involved in the Commodore entry in the round Australia rally many years ago, (remember the VB commodores?) and in testing they were all cracking floor pans, guards etc. The answer Holden didn't tell any body was that the Team Manager walked the production line with the cars as they were built, they had two floor pans joined together and about twice as many spot welds to stiffen them up, worked a treat.

See ya on the tarcks, Richo.

        • Rob popped over today and while he was at my place it triggered me to check my guard. Yes there is a small hairline crack in the guard in exactly the same spot as where rob_macca67 had cracking in his. RHS.

I have an ARB battery tray with an Allrounder 80AH battery. I have not done excessive driving on any corrugations and will have to get this sorted prior to our Cape York trip next year.

I will post up some photos tomorrow as I didn't get to take any. As my warranty is up in February 2013 I will be heading to Toyota to discuss this and be quoting T vs Rob_macca67 in an attempt to get this repaired.

Good luck, hopefully it's not as drawn out a process as Robs

If it us I'll just fabricate a guard install it and then make more for the members of Pradopoint

Brains, are you looking at making a support to assist with this problem? I am about to move my battery into the back (which I would prefer not to do) but keeping an eye on all options.

I have spent a lot of time reading American forums about this issue on the FJ and nobody seems to have an answer.

Yes. They have 3 different generations of the FJ (from what i read on the forum) and they were hoping the the new one (that came out about the same time we got the 150) would fix the problem. As with us there are quite a number finding the cracks in near new cars.

I'll wait to hear back from Toyota, when they fix it under warranty I will see if there is something that we can fabricate to offer more support because I want to keep my battery in the front.

I'll see what Toyota do first, and then look at what to do.

                          • Moved my battery into the back today. Decided I did not want to wait and see. Now I have to put a box over it so it does not reduce my cargo area too much.

What type of battery is it?? A Normal Lead/Acid battery would be illegal due to the dangers they pose (ie potential explosive gases given off)

I believe a AGM is allowed though......

Moved the system, new AGM installed, have a spare lead acid now without a home. Hurt the back pocket.
