Recovery Points - 150

Hi All, Just had a Deluxe ARB BullBar fitted today. I asked to have recovery hooks fitted to my vehicle as well, but was told that none are available at the moment. Question is, does anyone know when an ARB rated hook will be available, (as the shop assistant did not know). Also, where is the best place is to attach a snatch strap at the front if I don't have any recovery points? Thanks

I had an ARB bar fitted last week and I also had them fit the Outback Ideas recovery points.

If by none available at the moment, they were talking about ARB ones, then yes they haven't been developed for the Prado yet. Do a search and you'll see discussion on that. ARB development are focussing on other new vehicles like the Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50 and others but no Prado at present, I believe. I'm sure Sam (Hookedon4wding) can give a better update.

The outback ideas point is technically "not rated" and I think the ARB ones developed so far for Patrols, Hiluxes, etc are rated. I saw some in the shop the other day and they are a mean piece of kit.

Having said that the Outback Ideas kit is all very good and has an extremely good reputation. I'd highly recommend.

Not going to go into the dos and don'ts of what to do if you don't have recovery points as it is a very contentious topic and can be potentially dangerous. I did a 4wd course last year and the instructor said categorically don't use the tie down points on any vehicle (unless they are rated) unless you have no other options. In that case try equalising using an appropriate equalising strap. I'll leave it at that. Try searching for more discussion.

Long and short of it was that there was no plans to make one for the prado. Things may have changed since then however

I wouldn't hold my breath for ARB to make them for the Prado. The Outback Ideas recovery point is probably your best option.

I just spoke to ARB HO and they said that they are currently working on recovery points for the 150, but no date for release as yet.

why is that? it is one of the most widely used mining vehicles...

Sales figures as well as demand for recovery points dictate what ARB develop, specifically fleet sales and demand for recovery points on fleet vehicles. Obviously fleet buyers are demanding points for their Hilux, 70 Series, BT50/Ranger and Patrol fleets. Are the fleet buyers also demanding points on their Prados? If not, ARB don't see the demand or if the demand is less for the Prado, then the priority to develop them is also less.

Based on total sales figures in 2011, I would expect that recovery points for the Navara and Triton would be released before the Prado.

Hi guys, just to clarify, development of Prado recovery points hasn't started so there are definitely no part numbers or pricing available. Eventually we would like to investigate recovery points for Prado so we're not ruling them out all together but there won't be anything available in the near future.

You wont regret using the Outback Ideas, a number of people have been using them in both the 120 & 150 (me included) series with nothing but positive feedback.

My Outback Ideas recovery points are going on as I type. The Toyota service person was a little concerned that only two of the three bolt holes could be used and took the time to take me out the back and show me how it would have to mount. Coming back to PP makes it clear that only two of the bolt holes have been used in other's installs also. So I guess all is good .
