Not 100% but have a feeling that you won't find a rated recovery point anywhere as there is no standard to manufacture to, most will likely have a working load limit (WLL) but this is only for a static load (lifting or pulling) not a dynamic load which you would have doing a snatch recovery.
That said as long as you buy from a reputable manufacturer who uses quality steel, quality trades people and quality processes to an engineered design, you shouldn't go wrong.
Can you use the factory tie down points, probably for a winch, maybe not for a snatch though.
While winching you can monitor the loads and back off or dig to relieve some of the load, when snatching this is not possible.
If you don't have bolt on points, you may not get help if you need a snatch recovery.

As with everything, you assume the risk whichever way you decide.
    Kev,

2010 Silver 5dr GXL, Auto, diesel, ARB Deluxe bar, ARB bash plates, lightforce 170's, safari snorkel, towbar, dual batteries, air bags, trans cooler, Kings/Koni's, ARB rack, Cooper S/T Maxx's, Rock Tamers, Beaudesert 2.75" exhaust and more to come.

However, the off road manual that Toyota provides does say:

If you are unable to free the vehicle by yourself, it may be possible to free the vehicle using a rescue tool.
Examples of rescue tools are listed below. Use as necessary and in accordance with the situation.
      5. U-shaped shackle - used to attach straps etc when passed through the towing hook.
      6. Elastic towing rope

I think Toyota would have a hard time defending themselves when the manual they supply recommends using a snatch strap attached to the tow points.

This on going debate will that will never be resolved unless a manufacturer of cars or aftermarket recovery points issues an official NATA certificate for each point.

Guess what they don't, so as I stated at the 2010 GTG when no recovery points were available for 150's if I get stuck I'll get out myself, but if a another car with points that don't have a certificate are get stuck then I won't be recovering them.

Guess what an organizer got stuck and had to be snatched with a recovery point that didn't have a rating certificate!

So my point is that ultimately it is up to the two vehicles involved in the recovery, nobody else. If your not comfortable in your skills or your vehicle don't do it.

How do you qualify the installer do they have to have a certificate as an approved recovery point installer or is it OK for an owner with no formal qualifications to install "rated" recovery points?

End of my opinion or rant if you choose.

See ya on the tracks, happy to assist with any recovery, Richo.

PS I have the Outback Ideas installed by ARB and was the first in Qld.

This topic has been covered so many times on all the different models its not funny, but it comes around with a new thread pretty regularly and the same stuff goes round and round the merry go round That particular thread from post 120 onwards does have some good stuff, might have even had a post or 2 in it myself!

That is mostly correct Kev, there is no standard as such, however ARB are now producing "rated" recovery points for some 4wdrives, unfortunately the Prado is not one of them. So there are no rated recovery points for a Prado available off the shelf.

The thread linked to above is well worth the read from post #120 as it covers it all pretty well.

          Cheers Andrew

There are currently no "rated" recovery points available for the Prado, ARB are the only ones that I know of that have any chance of developing a rated recovery point for the 150 series, but don't hold your breath. This was posted on the 2nd April 2012 in this thread.

            Cheers, Sam.
So the Outback Ideas points are as good as it gets right now for any Prado, 120 or 150 series. They are not "rated", but are the only real option to the OE tow points available.

Good demo of the Google Search function here, much better than our own search:

This thread has gone off on a tangent from the original post. The issues of "rated" recovery points has been covered extensively before and we would be covering the same ground if we continue with this thread.
