The 150 owners manual shows using the two front ones and two other points on the underframe in front of the rear wheels for tying down.

The owners manual also refers to the two front points and the rear point as towing points and clearly says that the vehicle may be towed using these points. Admittedly, it does include many cautions about towing but these seem to be more about damaging the vehicle or transmission rather than the adequacy of the towing point.

The Off Road Driving owners manual also has a section on recovering a stuck vehicle and lists a number of tools that may be used including "elastic towing rope" and "U-shaped shackle used to attach straps etc when passing through the towing points". This suggests that the towing points are OK for recovery but it does not quote any force rating.

The front towing points particularly are substantial and much more than merely tie down points. Whether they are adequate or not, I can't yet say but the owners manual suggests they are OK.

    Hi Folks

ARB don't have recovery points for their new bars and arrange the plates around the existing Toyota points. Outback Ideas haven't released any yet and as mentioned before if it isn't tested to destruction and stamped it isn't rated, common sense must prevail.

    Regards, Richo.

PS: Did some serious tracks loaded up with passengers and gear over the Anzac Day weekend and the electronic traction aids are fantastic, next step from there is a winch.

Same as the 2006 on 120 series. There is a couple existing threads on the limits of welding and the hooks etc.. they are probably rated to the same as the OI ones ops:

I wouldnt be surprised if the OI 120 series fit this, it looks pretty similar from memory?

Thanks Mark, that's pretty much what I've found after looking around a bit more today. I will also be getting the rear hook when I get the towbar fitted in a week or two.

Hi A10, if I can't find aftermarket points I will use the factory one's (with one of those cords that links the two hooks and attaches the snatch strap in the centre) but the extract from the owners manual does not inspire full confidence in the hook suitablity for use in a snatch recovery situation stating that:

"in an emergency... your vehichle may be temporarily towed (by the font towing hook)... on hard surfaced road for short distance only"

That said the existing ones on the 150 do look a bit more substantial than those on the 120 but I am still not convinced.

My local ARB shop said "not available...yet" as did the TJM shop across the road.....have bought the one that goes in the towbar but that's it (so far).

Aftermarket front recovery points for 150 Series

Hi guys, first post on Prado Point so here goes...

Just started the fit out of my new 150 Series GXL Petrol and high on my to-do list was to fit a pair of aftermarket front recovery points such as the Outback Ideas type mentioned numerous times here in the 120 Series discussions.

However when I asked my local 4WD shop about them today they said they had not yet fitted front recovery points to a 150 Series and were not sure that the holes on the 150 Series would line up with those for the existing 120 Series recovery points... (and on my brief inspection of the 150 this evening it does look a bit different to pics others have posted of their 120's)

My question is has anyone fitted aftermarket front recovery points to their 150 yet and if so which did you use and did you run into any challenges or have to alter anything to make them fit?

    Cheers
    Chris
