  • Off with a bang

Hi had not used my 08 Prado for a couple of months had it parked in garage. Started up to take a drive but I could not move the car forward or backwards, like I had a chain holding it still. Checked all around for and interference and found nothing. Decided the park brake must be frozen on, placed the G box in low range and tried to move with the resulting loud bang like I had snapped something but the car was moving. Went for a test drive seemed to drive OK but still worried I may have snapped something. Any suggestions.

Common issue when the wheels have had a pressure wash and not dried properly. The brakes seize up a bit. After a wash, I go for a drive and then park with handbrake off.

I've had exactly that too after a wash. Scares the crap out of you the first time it happens.

Yep, after a wash, bang when you take off if it has sat for a day or two.

Had the same thing happen after driving through a river just before stopping at a campsite. Trying to start the next day, with the loud bang, in the middle of nowhere got the heart racing for a bit.

As ants said just leave the handbrake off until the disks dry
