I have a 4000km old prado and have noticed that if you hit the brakes hardish and then release the car doesn't release the brakes and you continue to decelerate heavily inviting that car behind you to park it's nose in your arse. Has anyone else found that?

Re: Brakes don't immediately release after a hard jab
Maybe it has something to do with the emergency brake assist if fitted.
I haven't noticed this on mine but then I haven't done any crash stops.
Cheers

Re: Brakes don't immediately release after a hard jab
Yes this happened to me the otherday. (19000 km on the clock)
I was doing about 40 km/h and the vehicle in front suddenly slowed down.
I applied brakes and my car slowed down heavily (much more than expected) and I released the brakes but it continue braking and came to a dead stop.
My wife and kids were asking me why I stopped so hard.
I didnt but I believe Mr. Toyota did :-)----------------------------------------------------

Re: Brakes don't immediately release after a hard jab
Have had something similar occur. Had to brake moderately firmly when i realised i was about to miss a street i was looking for. The brakes jammed on that hard that i thought it was going to put me through the windscreen. The pedal actually felt like it fell away from my foot. The car didn't skid and it didn't feel like the ABS. The vehicles braking was just completely inconsistant with the pedal pressure i was applying. Had another incident when i was braking lightly down a slight hill. The road had been resurfaced and there was a drop of to the old bitumen of about 40 mm. The car actually felt like the brakes failed completely and it lept foward for a second. Again no skidding etc. It reminded me of being off road on a very steep downhill and loosing traction on all but one tyre and shooting foward. Had the 10,000 service today and explained this to service department . Typically they couldnt find a fault and realy didn't seem too interested.(From my experience Toyota service don't analyse problems well.) My previous prado had ABS and never behaved like this. I'm a little worried . Anyone else had problems?

Brakes don't immediately release after a hard jab
I have had this happen twice. Once on the dirt when I went a bit quick around a corner with a negative camber. the car lost tradition and then it took over and stopped it completely for me. Very strange feeling.
The second time was the I looked up to see that the cars in front had slowed down and I hit the breaks hard momentary and once again the car took over and reduced my speed considerably . I guess it's some kind of crash avoidance system. Interesting to see how many rear enders this causes vs. Number of saved crashes... Perhaps a bit to smart for it's own good.

Re: Brakes don't immediately release after a hard jab
WTF is it?
Thought I was insane. Actually embarrassed me a few times because looks like I have completely panicked or over reacted. On highway typically. Going to overtake say a road train. Realize not safe so quickly jab the brake to wash some speed and car seems to smash the brakes on. Friend thought I was hopeless and full of bs until happened to him when he was driving. Girlfriend almost killed me the other week after I scared the crap out of her while she was reading a magazine and just about put her through windscreen150 GXL Diesel (white) 09/10.
