Why's that? Toyota foots the bill so what's their issue?

Dunno wooley, I suspect the guy who left was making promises that he couldn't deliver on. I had a long wait for my mudflaps as well last year. If it comes back I will raise the issue with them again.

I am a bit nervous about changing it out in terms of the shaft balance being as good as the original anyway.

Interesting, have been hearing this clunk on and off since owning the car and always thought it was the tranny stopping in 2nd and then after a while shifting into 1st.
Will be adding this to the list for the 40k service in the next few months. Tailshaft clunk, rattle from drivers side b pillar/under dash and mudflats, haven't broached it yet but will be the first time I've been able to return to the same dealer for a consecutive service so will see how I go, will probably speak to them up front to give them time to organise the relevant bits.

Kev, I doubt they will change thje shaft up front, they will want to try re-greasing it first. Let us know how you go though.

Will do, i'll be happy with a regrease if it sorts the issue, I'll find out what grease they use and add it into the 5000k service I have been doing since it was new. Haven't had a chance to speak to them yet, but we'll see what sort of response I get. At least I can relate some of the responses other dealers have given, so they should at least listen.

Riv, when i took mine in for the 20k service i told them the tailshaft clunk was starting and they will need to grease it.... they said we'll replace it for the new model. Mine wasnt even bad, it was only happening every so often.

Dealer dependant once again it seems.

Roo, they (the dealer) always over grease mine and grease ends up spinning out underneath.

Hmm, yes well, all fell off the rails when the usual guy I deal with left the dealership. Seems ok ATM so will wait and see if it comes back. I was a tad concerned aboutr shaft balance with a new one anyway.

Why were you worried about shaft balance?

It's made to the same standards as the original one. It's only an updated design.

Riv, if it concerns you and you end up getting it replaced maybe mark the old one on the vehicle either before its removed and ask if they keep it stashed for a bit (they probably wont let you take it due to warranty) so if at lest if the new one goes in and it vibrates then you can ask for the old one back and put it back in. Id rather put up with the occasional clunk then a bloody vibration. In saying that I dont think as Wooley has said that there should be any vibrations with a new one as wooley has said "made to the same standards" but you just never no........Cheers Steve

Just had my 10K service with complaint about Clunking... been happening since about 9k (Prado 150)

They "applied grease" and said "let us know how it goes, this is standard service item and will/would be done each service".

Driving home from service, Clunk...Clunk..... at second set of lights... Needless to say I will be letting them know issue is not resolved.
