Well after having the tailshaft greased at the 30000k service the clunk has returned, did last 5000k. Looks like a trip to the dealer to sort it out, will be asking for a new shaft this time.

Just had a look at the service records for my 09 Kakadu and every 10K service mentions "lubricated propeller shaft and tightened bolts". Forgive my ignorance but is that the same thing as greasing the tailshaft? I can't say I've ever noticed the clunk but I've only had the vehicle for 2 weeks and mostly city driving plus a longish drive to the Yarra Valley last weekend (some dirt and gravel but nothing extreme).
Hi Fido666, propeller shaft is the tail shaft. It is required to lubricate them every 10000KM. But the problem is the clunk starts before the service is due. I got toyota to grease the shafts for me less then 1000KM ago. Driving it today and it feels to be coming back. So if you can't get 10000 Km out of the shafts without a clunk that is unexpectable. I will wait for it to get a little worse then demand a new shaft. This is crap Toyota get your act together. I didn't get these problems from my old Patrol with 220000Km on clock with original shafts and unis and oh almost half the purchase price.

Thanks for the explanation Dan. I'll keep an eye on it but only have factory warranty till the end of this month, hopefully it won't come to a fight.
After going back over the posts in this thread I am still not sure if what I experienced today was the dreaded tailshaft clunk. After stopping at the lights I felt a shudder through the brake pedal after a few seconds but no noise. I thought it might possibly be from the aircon cycling, my old 95 used to do something similar but with the 95 I could hear a click almost like a relay switching on when it happened.
Somewhat OT but I also read about a mudflap issue earlier in the thread and the poster had those replaced under warranty as well as his tailshaft. Other then the mudflaps on the 150 being ridiculously short is there some other problem with them I should know about?
I have asked my dealer's service department about the tailshaft clunk and was told they are just lubricating them now. I asked about replacement and was told that the clunk returns even after replacement.

Thats is BS, the new shaft removes the clunk permanently. I have not had a problem for of 20,000km since replacement in my 150.
I have to go via this dealer as they sold me the car and I only have about a week of factory warranty remaining.
If it is a factory warranty (not dealer warranty) then you can go elsewhere. I have not been back to the dealer I bought the car from since the 1500km service and frankly I never will go back to them either for a service or a new car!
I have been putting up with tail shaft for a couple of years and not happy. Have taken Prado to dealer in between services a couple of time to have tail shaft re greased as too annoying to wait for service time. It keep coming back.
When booking in for next service (next week), asked dealer to fix problem - not just re grease. Was told Toyota do not replace tail shafts for that problem. I asked them to put in an official complaint to Toyota as it was not good enough. Dealer would not even raise problem with Toyota. They could only recommend I call Toyota and even told me what book and page in the service manual has the Toyota 1800 number.
Called Toyota yesterday. They said these sort of issue should be logged by dealer not me. Explained they need to call dealer and tell them. Asked someone call back with update. No calls so far.
About to call Toyota again. Maybe I should make it a daily routine for a while - call Toyota then call dealer. See who gives in first - Toyota, dealer or me.

Peter which dealer? I have had good experiences with Sci-Fleet Kedron and after the grease option on the first service they replaced the shaft the second. Been pretty much 4 years since then.
