  • Electrical fault when driving on wet roads

I have a 150 auto diesel and every time it is raining very heavy the engine and traction control light comes on and the 4wd low light flashes on and off. When this happens you cannot change the 4wd low/high it just stays in what position it is when fault occurs. Once it dries out lights go away and no problem. This has happened since new and now has 40000km. I have had dealer look at this twice and they cannot find problem just keep clearing code. I am thinking of heading to the Cape this year and it would be useless with water crossings. Just wondering if anyone had similar problem or any ideas? Cheers.

I wonder whether there is a connection to the transmission that is not pushed home properly or cracked or something that is located located underneath the car that is allowing water to enter it?

Not sure when they looked at it the first time they said they pulled a plug apart and put water resistant grease in there. Played up again straight after. Think they keep putting it in too hard basket. I wondered whether it might be a problem with one of wheel sensors for traction control and abs?

        Grevis,

I have the same issue where the warning lights come on. Mine is however not related to wet weather... It is an intermittent issue. With my vehicle it happens when at highway speed normally. There is no warning and it happens suddenly. There is no apparent change in the drive or engine noise or anything. Something that I noticed is that the auto box will hang on to the gears longer and will take very long before shifting to 5th and locking.

Yesterday I managed to get to the dealer with the warning lights on and they plugged their computer in and checked the fault codes. Believe it or not it gave a EGR valve fault. They checked it out and cleaned the valve. We will need to wait and see it this cures the problem.

What I saw is when you switch the car off, wait a minute and restart it, the lights are all off... It seems that the fault codes are not registered on the ECU.

I will keep you posted on the success of this fix!

        Cheers

Thanks for the info Skoeter. Mine actually held the gears for longer aswell when the code was active. I had mine in to dealer last week for 40k service and they said they found a faulty oring on one of the wheel speed sensors. Just need to find some water to see if it is fixed.

Hopefully fixed the problem. Dealer found seal missing on wheel speed sensor. Now to find some water and test out.
