My Prado developed a clunk yesterday when leaving the lights and as the day went on it got worse. At first I suspected it may have been the tail shaft slip joint but after backing out the driveway the noise was significantly different this time. So i jacked up the front left and turned the wheel with my hands and it replicated a very similar sound. I then jacked up the front right and did the same thing and produced the same noise coming from the left hand side.
My diagnosis is the CV shaft as failed and is booked in Toyota tomorrow to get looked at. I find it unusual that a car with 55,000 kays on it needs this already and has done very very little off road work. I'm guessing I'm going to have to pay for it since i have modified the suspension and put larger tires on the vehicle.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
