  • hill descent and dodgy shift into 4L....

hey all just had an odd thing happen this weekend when turning on hill descent control. It sounded like the transfer box mis-shifted as i got a gear on gear noise for about 2 seconds (like the noise when you mis-shift in a manual) before it locked in. Never happened again and has been fine ever since...its a 2012 auto d4d

    worth worrying about?

DAC only works on the braking system so it would not have done anything to the transfer case. The sound was probably the brakes grabbing and releasing. In my opinion DAC is a worthless gimmick and you are better off regulating your speed yourself.

I agree and you can only use it for so long and that I have been led to believe that it cuts out.

No it's definitely a mis shift noise and from the transfer box as there is no where else it would come from. And I'm fully aware of the brakes grabbing, it's definitely not that. It's The noise a gear makes when it's shifted up against another. Well it's been fine since so I won't worry too much.

Was it just after you shifted into 4L? Not knowing your model, mine has a little knob to shift ranges and I have had it grind before. Happened to me when I put it neutral and shifted to 4L, but I think the car started rolling a bit before the shift completed. Foot on brake, back into 4H then back to 4L and all was good again. To me it just sounds like it wasn't in gear properly.

Yep it was sorry should have made it clear in the OP. Sounds like you had the same experience I did. No worries I'll be more careful next time. I miss having a proper lever to shift with ha ha
