I didn't think you could get them on a gxl- pretty sure on vx and kakas got them.

              Hi All,
I have been driving 4X4 for many years but never owned a Toyota. I’m now thinking of buying a 2018 GXL Prado. My NS Pajero (2006) has factory diff locks on the rear and being the first model with factory diff locks it was unclear if the diff locks would leave the traction control system working on the front wheels or not, when turned on. As it turned out the traction control is turned off, not a good setup.
So I sent an email of to Toyota and got this reply.
              Dear Sven,

Thank you for your recent email received by the Toyota Guest Experience Centre dated 27 April 2018.

We appreciate the time you have taken to write to us about the traction control function during rear differential lock in the 2018 Prado GXL.

The operation of traction control can only be turned off by toggling the traction control button, this means that in the event that the rear differential lock is engaged, the front wheels should still have traction control.

Thank you for contacting Toyota and allowing us the opportunity to respond.

              Regards,

              Tom

The word “should” still have traction control doesn’t sound crystal-clear to me.
Can someone confirm that the traction control is still working on the front if the rear diff locks are engaged?
              Thanks

Just be aware of the limitations of the factory electronic rear locker on the 2018 GXL. First it only works in low range. Second, the manual advises not to go over 8kph with it engaged (though we'll probably ignore that). Third, it's mighty hard to engage. You have to edge forward wiggling the steering wheel before it will engage - not much use if you are already stuck. The chief tech at my dealer says the engagement problem is common to them all - he often has queries from new owners and has to take them to a patch of dirt to show them how to engage it.

Just don't think that you'll get the same functionality as an air locker.

                  Thanks Yellowdog.
That doesn’t sound like a terrific setup, however if you managed to engage the locker will the traction control still work on the front wheels?

I have a 2018 GXL which has rear diff lockers.
According to the owner's manual Traction Control operates automatically in response to various driving situations. So I assume some situations will confuse it.
It recommends turning TRC/VSC off when stuck in mud/sand etc as it 'may' reduce power to the wheels.
I leave it off when off-road as the terrain is probably too complicated for it.

I turn it off in sand or really boggy mud- Leave it on otherwise, fantastic on rocks and loose gravel.

I couldn't get the rear diff to lock on a mountain/rock track last weekend. Was about to put in a warranty call when I read your comments. ty mate.
                            Yes: Rear_Diff_Locked = (L4+Centre_Diff_Locked+Rear_Diff_Lock_Selected+Mov e_Forward+Turn_Steering_Wheel_L&R). In that sequence.

                            Amazing.

The manual doesn't specify all of this, however it does say that the rear diff will be auto-unlocked when either the centre diff is unlocked or H4 is selected!
Thus the owner is left with reversing the logic to work it out (but the the steering wheel jiggle).

The ATRAC is turned of when the locker is engaged.
here a relatively simple mod to overcome the issue.

you may have have to join, but worth it, there is also information about getting your phone to av in on the factory radio unit. Basically CarPlay but better as you can use the hema apps and get them to display on the headunit
