Prado Sway Control Question

Hi,

Does anyone know if the sway control in Prado's also activates the trailer brakes via a brake controller?

I'm looking at a caravan and trying to work out if I should spend the extra on a sway control unit on the van.

Some aftermarket trailer brake controllers have a manual override for applying just the trailer brakes if your van starts to sway. I have a Redarc TopPro Elite with this feature (you can download the user's manual from their website).

I doubt that any aftermarket brake controllers would connect to the vehicle's CAN bus because vehicle stability sensors, Body Control Modules and their CAN messaging is not standardised across brands.

My best advice is to balance the load in your van according to the manufacturer's directions. I am thankful that, to date, my rig has never become unstable.

I was more thinking that if the sway control brakes the car wheels and lights up the brake lights, the brake controller would be triggered and brake the caravan. I'm not sure if the vehicle sway control lights up the brake lights. I have a Tow Pro elite as well, triggered off the brake light signal (per standard brake controller wiring).

I think this might help answer the question. It looks like the vehicle may reduce power and brake individual tyres on the vehicle and nothing on the trailer.
