Checked the batteries on mine (alternate the fobs from time to time) and the charge was down to 2.8 amps after 3 years of use. Installed new batteries anyway. Just change the batteries regularly and should be no problems.

Does anyone know of a place other than Toyota that sells the CR1632 batteries? I did find Jaycar in my Googling but they are in the city where I seldom go.

For some reason I thought the fobs used CR1616 batteries (earlier post in this thread perhaps, I'm sure I read that somewhere) and bought some at Dick Smith, upon checking the manual again I realised I had the wrong ones. Dick Smith don't sell CR1632 batteries it seems.

Both my fobs are giving the "key battery low" warning now, the Prado is a bit over 3 years old.

Fido, I think 1616 is for the 120 series. Jaycar are also in Ringwood. Some pharmacies and Bunnings sell small lithium button batteries but your best bet would likely be Battery World. That is where I bought my 120 remote batteries a few months ago

Possibly IGA or similar or Battery World.

Thanks for reminding me that Jaycar are also in Ringwood Wayne, I'm actually heading out that way tomorrow.

Battery World are even further out MJ but didn't think of them so thanks for the suggestion. I guess I could trek out to Lilydale if Jaycar are out.

Found some on eBay also, would only take a few days to get here so that's another option.

Hubby said his fob wasn't working at all but I just pulled it apart, checked the battery with a tester (low but not flat), put it back together and it works fine. Will still get some new batteries though since I have been seeing the warning on the dash for a while now.

ETA: Might just go with these eBay ones, at least Maxell is a known brand :-

Just curious here, but did anyone realize that u can put your spare remote inside your car as a backup and still be able to lock your car safely? Just came across it while we're on holidays and it works fine as long as u use the remote buttons to lock/unlock the car.... touching the door handle does nothing but make noise.....

Not sure if its in the owner's manual or not but will check when we get home......

Ended up dropping into Battery World in Wantirna (Vic) and picked up 2 new batteries. Ended up getting the Swiss made Renata branded ones as the alternative was the same China made Eclipse branded ones that Jaycar sell. The guy at Battery World said those Chinese Eclipse ones are no good, customers bring them back after a few weeks.

Interestingly he said that Panasonic stopped producing the CR1632 when the Tsunami hit and wiped out their factory in Japan. He also said they won't be resuming production of that model. He said the Renata and Eclipse ones are the only ones they can get now in that model. Now I did ask about the Maxell ones from eBay but he wasn't sure about those as they aren't a brand imported/stocked by Battery World.

I'm mentioning all this because if what he is saying is correct the CR1632 might be harder to source in future. So if you think your batteries might be a bit old or low on juice then stock up now, just saying....

BTW, my old Panasonic cells were both still showing around 80% still on the tester but the warning keeps coming up on the dash so I have changed both to be safe.

Yes that's what I thought too but with so many knock-offs coming out of China these days I'm still a bit wary of eBay batteries. And hey I was there and couldn't be stuffed waiting a week to save a few $$ on the eBay ones anyway.

He looked at me like I didn't know what I was doing, and you can't blame him for that. I felt like a fool, but you can't know everything.
