  • Battery replacement DIY

    Hi,

I wanted to replace the battery, but just thought I'd ask first if there is any steps I should be aware of? The reason is I've done battery changes before on my older cars (less than 1992) without any major dramas, but don't want problems for my Prado and my concern is if I disconnect the battery will the car's computer (or Multi-information display), clock, radio, etc have to be reset? Also, I've read pages 465-466 of the Owner's Manual but still thought I'd check. Thanks

You'll have to reprogram the radio, reset the auto down on windows etc, if you have
one of those emergency jump starters you could connect it across the terminals to keep
    the memory going.

      Hi LeighW,

Thanks for the advice . I thought of using a computer saving cigarette lighter adapter (uses 9 volt battery), but was unsure if any members had used one with positive results. The jump starter cables suggestion is what I might look at and being very careful. Thanks again .

I don't think the computer saver will work as the cigar lighter circuits work through a relay which
is switched on when the key or whatever you have on your 150 in accessory position.

The 9V battery won't power the relay, if you have an accessory socket that is powered all
the time then yes the saver might work.

I see what you mean about the cigarette lighters' circuit. Just have to take precautions with the battery, but much appreciative LeighW .
