  • Programming Electric Mirrors

Does anyone know if it possible to program the electric mirrors so that they swing in with ignition off and out with ignition on?

No , I dont think you can. If you go to the back of the owners manual it list the dealer only and personal switching options

Anything can be done with effort.
If you really want to do it, then head off to 12volt.com and ask for advice there.

I see why you ask rexie given what just happened to you in that other thread. Maybe the fact that a button does this normally prevents the auto feature from being available.

Easy solution though just push the button.

Yep, all good in hindsight but surely someone bumping the mirror in a car park should not be enough to render the thing useless. I don't see many cars where the owners have folded their mirrors in in car parks.

I asked my dealer today if they can program the side mirrors to auto fold-in on motor turn off or car lock.
They advised me that this is not possible and is only available on the Kakadu.

I didn't know the VX mirrors were different than the Kakadu, but doesn't matter, looks like I will just have to remember to push the button to fold them in when needed.

            Cheers,

            Jeff

Would be a very handy function if it was available.

If you keep pushing the button when parking, to fold the mirrors in, it will become an automatic thing for your memory to do. Just have to remember to open the mirrors when driving off!

                  LOL!

Can't imagine it would be that hard to wire so that it is connected to ignition / accessory, like the rear view camera hack.

It was said with a bit of tongue-in-cheek!

I don't think Toyota can help, so it's just another button to push.

Some of us are getting lazy, wanting to push a button to do everything. My first car was a Morris Minor, air conditioning was opening the windows with the window winder, no central locking, no radio, and when the battery went flat, it was matter of using a crank handle to turn the engine over to fire up.

I've taken to folding the mirrors in but unfortunately my wife forgets, so it would be good if it just happened automatically. Yowie, let me know if you have any ideas on training my wife

                            1. Don't let her drive the Prado.

                            2. If she forgets, it means an extra night of entertainment for you provided by her!
