  • Lithium Ion Deep Cycle Batteries

With 150's starting to exhibit inner guard cracking, I am reluctantly reconsidering my under bonnet battery options. In my research I came across lithium ion automotive batteries and was curious to know if anyone has used these and are they worth the money?

The main benefit offered is significantly less weight (100ah @ approx 15kg), but apparently they charge extremely quick with a reasonable input voltage (about 13v). I am unsure how they would handle under bonnet heat or even if they can be installed in high temp environments. The biggest down side is the cost, with most well over $1000.

I have had some experience with them (Lifetech batteries) and like you said cost is up there. They are however a great battery and probably more suited to an in vehicle install. They can be bought in a kit form for installation into the users required area with some mounting hardware.

Just be careful as there are done cheaper cells out there that have a higher rate of failure. If you google DIY Electric Car you'll find heaps of info on peoples setup to convert cars to electric or google Lithium iron phosphate battery.
