Key locked in car

I had my 150 in for a 30000 service to day, and when I went to pick it up, the service department told me do not leave the key in the car. Seems that when they were doing a tyre rotation when who ever was doing it, touched the door handle and locked the key inside. lucky he still had the little key that unlocks the spare wheel in its lock so they could it to get back inside. They have orderd a new switch under warranty so will fix it in the new year.
Im pleased that it happened at the dealers and not when I could have been in the middle of nowhere.

I doubt I could lock the key in my 120 if I tried, except with another key.

Tried it with my spare key fob placed in different positions inside the Prado (on the front seat, inside the centre console, on the back seat under the metallic sun protection screen for the windscreen) and the Prado would not lock. Each time I touched the door handle, a warning alarm sounded until I opened a door.

I didn't think it was possible either, every time I wash the car I leave the key in the dash. When it hit the lock button it beeps repeatedly but does not lock, clearly something broken there...

I'm surprised that someone hasn't yet designed an iPhone app that can be used instead of the vehicle fob. Indeed, the app could unlock the car and, if you choose by using another (pin) entry, start the car. It could even log (or send a SMS) with GPS coordinates each time the vehicle is entered. I'm sure there's a million other things it could do.

Do I patent this idea now?

With you on that Andrew. And as for that annoying continuous beeping when you place a bag on the front passenger seat - I'd have to tear that part of the wiring out of the car first.

Or you could have the dealer turn all the bells, whistles, sirens, and alarms off

Can't you unlock the doors by using the little buttons on the tailgate? I thought if the remote was in or next to the car you can use this?

If it locks the car with the key inside shouldnt it unlock the car with key inside holding the door handle?

I put the key inside my car and it wouldnt lock it beep.

Yeah Johno you would think so, but not the case it locks but not unlock. something to do with a thingmebob may be even a sensor. Any way part has been ordered so we will see in the new year. I tried it yesterday and the door didn't lock with the fob inside but it locked this afternoon so go figure.

I spent about an hour trying to lock my spare key in the car and it simply wouldn't do it...I would suggest that perhaps if you car allows it to lock with the key inside, then perhaps you have another fault somewhere with the internal sensors..

You have to be very close to the car for the sensors to work. I put my keys in a key safe lock attached to the tow bar and the rear buttons or the door handles won't work at that distance.

Strange,.... when my wife leaves her bag with her 150 VX key in it, in the truck, and I try to lock the vehicle with my key in my pocket (from outside touching the front door handle), it just won't lock, just beeps at me until I remove my wifes handbag from inside the truck.
