I went into my local Jaycar and picked up a 10a diode, did some surgery on a 7.5 amp fuse so that the fuse soldered to one end of the diode and the leg of the fuse to the other (fuse and diode in series). I fitted this to my Prado 150 in 2009. I removed it last month becasue I traded the Prado and have fitted it to my new one. It is still going strong.

How much did you trim?
I just fitted the same one. I had to trim it down as per the instructions but I'm sure it's not fitting 100% correctly. Dash Battery light is now on permanently. But on the good side, my output voltage went from 13.65 to 14.12 across both batteries.Originally posted by MDSimpson View Post

if the warning light is on then the regulator is not seeing the reference voltage and
has gone into fail safe mode.
The ABR diode has either been damaged by the trimming or is either in the wrong
way round or not seated properly. Try re-inserting opposite way around, if that
doesn't work hack a bit more off it or try contacting Derek for support.
You would think ABR would trim them themselves but probably don't want to risk damaging
the unit, leave that up to the customer it seems. I don't know what market/vehicle their general purpose diode is designed for but it doesn't appear to be for any of the Japanese models etc.

If you have to "cut or hack" a product to make it fit, it's not fit for purpose. Does the product state it's designed to be used in a Prado? I would be looking at one that does fit because if you stuff it up by cutting or hacking and didn't follow the instructions to the letter (onus on you to prove) it's user pays...Originally posted by 08D4DPRADO View Post

Hey LeighW, just bough one of your diodes off EBay, looking forward to getting it in, new optima batteries going in next week as well,
Just to add to the last few posts, Why pay for something you have to cut up and bugger around with, extra $20 odd bucks and you can have one good to go.

Mk3 diode arrived in the mail today, thanks heaps for that. Good price, fast shipping and easy to follow instructions.
So far it works great, the Prado was hot from driving home, I started it and the alternator was charging at 13.68 volts. I installed the diode and restarted the car, now charging at 14.19 volts. Perfect and only took about a minute to install.
Thanks mate, so far my experience has been first rate. My start battery usually sat around 12.4 volts, so will be interesting to see after a week or so what difference the diode will make.

I received my Voltage Boosting Diode today!
I didn't idle it up when I checked the before and after voltages. I didn't have someone to rev it up.
I put the diode in the wrong way to start with and the battery symbol stayed on. I thought I was in all kinds of trouble. Flipped it around just like the instructions said and the battery symbol went away.
My before voltage when the car was warmed up was 13.95 and with the diode it went to 14.5.
I'm very happy!! I'm all set to go to get my dual battery system.Comment
