  • Redarc BCDC install location?

I'm wanting to install a Redarc BCDC unit and wondering if anyone can provide 150 series install photos / location.

Slim probably not where you are thinking but if you want to see mine in a custom battery / charger box in the back of my 150 go to my build link in my signature. BCDC1225. Happy to answer questions. I am extremely happy with the set up and the charge in both main and auxiliary batteries.

I mounted mine by getting a plate of aluminium 3mm and bending into an L shape. One side sites under the piranha battery tray whose screws secure the battery tray and the L plate. The other side of the L comes vertically up I front of the battery. The BCDC is mounted on the front of that plate ( the plate sits between the BCDC and the battery. This location provides lots of cool airflow.

My plate also has a relay and a connector for the solar panel. The relay switches the main battery to the BCDC when the ignitions on, and the solar panel socket when the ignitions off. I source the ignition signal from the vacant fuel heater fuse socket in the engine bay fuse box (this wire has a 1amp inline fuse and holder inside the fuse box before running out the existing cable outlet then across the top of the radiatior in the same flex duct (12mm from mem) with the 6B&S which connects the main battery to the BCDC (via the relay). I have 40amp manually resettable Circuit breaker on the main battery end of the 6B&S cable.

I put mine on the passenger side between the filter and the firewall.

Made up a support bracket for the Redarc BCDC1240, the link solenoid and some circuit breakers.

Hey sorry for resurrecting an old thread... where did you end up installing your charger? in front of the drivers head light? in hindsight, was it a good location to install the charger? Any tips for the install?

                          Thanks in advance.

                          Michael.

Check out Off Road Down under website. They have a purpose built bracket for the bcdc 1220. It fits behind the air cleaner on the drivers side. The site has a number of pictures showing the bracket and one fitted in a 150 with bcdc 1220 attached. It looks like a really good place to fit the bcdc, very accessible too. Appears to bolt to existing threaded holes in engine bay. $30 for the bracket but looks well designed. I have just fitted a dual battery set up with ARB tray & SBI12. I intend to fit the bcdc in the future and the position of the Off Road Down under bracket looks ideal to connect the charger and isolator.
