    evltoy,

As this has been covered many times before, in simple terms what you have been told and read is not correct, the ECU does not monitor the voltage and certainly does not turn the alternator off. A simple fix is available for many low output alternators.

I noticed that you didn't earth the AUX back to the negative of the STARTER battery. Is this going to be ok?

Hi evltoy, once you've read the many pages on this subject and you want a simple and inexpensive 'fix' then may I suggest you send a private message to Leigh and purchase one of his alternator voltage boosters. Save the money and dont bother with the DC-DC especially for small distances like underbonnet applications.
            Cheers
            Micheal.

thanks for the heads up 120D4D

My situation is a little different where I have a 4.3mt boat I tow with a battery. My intentions are to be able to charge my boat battery and or second in engine bay while I'm driving to my 1+ (sometimes 6hr+) destination.

In most installs providing adequate cabling and suitable batteries are installed charging
a battery in a camper/boat etc should not be an issue.

In my own setup I charge an aux in car and two 100Ah in the van.

                  Cheers'

That is pretty much what I have and do except its a camper trailer not a boat. I have one of Leigh's booster diodes and have had for pushing on 5 years, no problems, axillary battery is still good as gold, trailer always seems to have power despite the fact that my cabling in the trailer is well under the size most people recommend, but hey it still works!

                    Cheers Andrew
