  • Battery charger

I have a standard twin battery system with a stock starter and Optima yellow top aux, running via an SBI12 with in cab override and status light, no diode. I have two sets of cables running to the back:
    8B&S for accessories
    6B&S for anderson plug

I'm finding that after 9 months after installing this system, my yellowtop is running all that well, the charge doesn't last as long as it used to. I'm considering installing a DC-DC charger however don't want to lose my override capability.

what I'm considering: during the long drives that I do, would be a good idea to plug perhaps a 5amp dc charger into the rear factory inverter and have it charge my battery through the anderson plug, in concert with the SBI12, while driving?

Perhaps a 240VAC multistage charger might be better to maintain your battery when it is parked at home?

If your going to charge via charger you'll have to disconnect the VSR.

As amts wrote or install a booster diode.

        Hey Leigh,

Which one for Prado 150? MK2 or MK3?

        Cheers,

          Hi Kevin,

MK2 gives same performance as MK3 only difference is the MK3
is virtually indestructible, the MK2 will fuse same as a fuse and need
to be replaced should a fault develop in the vehicles electrics.

I would also do a capacity test on your Optima as they have a three year warranty
from memory and if it is a little suss may as well go a warranty claim.

          Cheers
