    Flat as a Tack

    Just got back from 10 day in WA, (sampling fine wine in Margret River region) & just went
    to give the Prado a turn over & NOTHING.
    Absolutely nothing, not a cracker nothing from any source at all.
    2.5 years old, haven't been serious off road for about 5 months.
    All was good before I went away, all secured & all things off.
    Does the battery fall under warranty at all, warranty book is in draws in the back
    that I cannot get to because backed up against a wall.
    Not sure just to get new one or wait till tomorrow for Toyota to open.

    Battery is not a warranty item, good time to fit an Optima. Leave your charger on overnight and see if it will revive it.

    2.5 years isn't a good innings, they usually go for 5-7 years. You may have a parasitic drain from something.

      I already have a D34 Optima as my 2nd battery, I'll need to research for a good starter battery.
      & yes, I need to track down what the cause of this is, 10 days not starting shouldn't just go completely flat.

        My mate just got his Nissan fixed after replacing alternator and draining 2 batteries. Turns out there was almost one amp drain whilst sitting idle. The clowns that fitted his aftermarket stereo/DVD system had botched the wiring. So every 2 or so days the car would not start if left parked up.

          Left the cruiser parked at Sydney airport for 5 weeks and started first press of the button on our return

              For that sort of money, it probably comes with a little hidden box with 3 mice running on a treadmill 24/7 providing a trickle charge to the battery!

                        Battery will have a warranty though not sure what the OEM warranty is.

                        Battery failures are common with low voltage alternators if you only do short daily commutes
                        or leave the car garaged for extended periods.

                        Options, short trips fit a booster diode or supplemental charging with charger, garaged
                        again top up with charger.

                          Yeh, thanks Leigh.
                          Up to 2 years OEM warranty (% based), car is 2.5 years now.
                          Normally trips are not short & after closer inspection found battery has had slight leakage from the top
                          & positive post had slight powder corrosion on it.

                          Looking at Optima D27F replacement, just looking for best price in Brissy now.

                              Still lurking around PP Pete. Not much happens on the other side. You Prado boys still come up with a lot of good ideas I can use on the cruiser, it is a Toyota after all. The treasurer has given her OK for the next mod, New exhaust system coming soon. Your new camping buddies in the Patriot will be down your way for most of January
