Alternator Specs

I'm in the (fairly urgent) market for a replacement alternator for GXL 3.0 TD engine. Have come across 3 different amp outputs 80A, 100A and 130A.

Anyone with the expertise and or knowledge to help me decide which one will suit my needs?

No dual battery 80A will do, with dual battery I'd go for the 130A

Might as well go for the bigger output if the price difference is negligible.

I would suggest always go for the biggest

May need to change main alternator fuse (bolt in style I think) and main wire from alternator to engine bay fuse panel if installing the 130Amp model. Been thinking of doing this myself.

For the lesser alternator fitted to RHD models the fuse is 120A for the 130A alternator fitted to LHD models it is 140A. Why the difference between RHD and LHD? Who knows?

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I could well be in the specifics, but I beleive that no RHD Prado has factory twin crank batteries, but some LHD Prado's have dual crank batteries. This could possibly explain the difference in the loom and fuse???

Other thing to check is the price on a genuine remanufactured alternator. We got a flyer from the local dealer about a month back on both reman starters and alts, and recently had to put an alt in a 100 T/D, the genuine reman was $30 cheaper than anything we could find aftermarket, and a nation wide dealer warranty to boot

One of the shops up your way does genuine reco $190 on fleabay, well if I remember correctly.

GENUINE IS BEST. In this case.
