  • Dash Camera

Good evening PPers and Merry Xmas. I thought I would ask what dash cameras those of you out there are using.

I'm after a new one and am thinking of purchasing the street guardian sg9665gc.

I fitted the same one in the wife's car last week. Works well, great picture and is smaller than I expected (about the size of 2 match boxes). I'll get another one for the prado soon.

Oh and I've assured her I'm not spying on her...

Blackvue - although I got the front Bly version, they do a 2 channel version, which ads a rear facing camera mounted to the rear window.

Im not Bogged - I've just lost traction. . . . . and now I'm showing the wife why I bought those Maxtrax, and the tyre deflator, and the compressor, and the bullbar, and the winch, and a lot of other goodies I've hidden in the Prado

Geoff, How has the Blackvue performed. I am seriously considering purchasing one in the next month or so. Do you view the footage on your iPhone via WiFi or on an Apple computer from the SD card?
          Thanks

x2. I think nowadays this seems to be a worthwhile investment to protect yourself against fools on the road.

i have the blackvue fitted for nearly six months and it was working great until a month ago. Now the back camera shuts off frequently and requires a restart everytime to get both the camera working. it's annoying and not what anyone would expect for an expensive unit. Any body had similar experience?

Today I bought the Street Guardian SG9665GC on fleabay using their 15% off coupon. Made it a smudge over 200 delivered which I'm pretty stoked with considering the RRP is 329. I'll report back how it goes, hopefully it performs as well as all the reviews I've read.

Yep that's 2 units I have now, fitted one in the prado with the hardwire kit yesterday.

Blackvue 500. Single channel since they were released. Only issue has been a melted memory card which I think was a fleabay knock off. One from the same batch also failed in my PC.

Seriously thinking of a 2ch Blackvue after a couple of close ones from behind. (Snigger)

Street guardian is meant to be good. I think the guy who runs Dashcamownersaus Facebook page runs a street guardian

This is some of the footage. Bearing in mind YouTube degrades quality from its compression. I don't really use the wifi to view footage but would always Be helpful in a speaking to the authorities situation. Not having a screen does make the unit nice and discrete

Have a Blackvue 550, since early last year. No problems so far.

It is compatible with an Apple laptop. On the trip to W.A. and back last year, the missus downloaded the Blackvue recording via wifi, and was able to snap either single pictures or video on the laptop.

The pictures from the wifi download were just slightly darker than if taken directly from the laptop through the windscreen, and the GPS speed is included in the picture.

                          I use this one http://www.gearbest.com/car-dvr/pp_1...nBAaAgfX8P8HAQ

It has a capacitor not a lithium battery (ideal for Aussie summers ), hides behind my rear view mirror and plugs into cigarette lighter, gives great footage and is easy to install and well priced, in fact if you are bothered to look you can probably find a coupon with a Google search for this site always.02c
