    Thanks for your help guys.
So they made a mistake and fixed it under warranty and you feel it necessary to name them in a public forum.

That is harsh but I suppose it now gives them the right to publicly name you so that other suppliers may be wary of you.

    Seems fair.

A very dangerous mistake from someone who should know better though. I think part of the value of forums is being able to share information about good retailers and which ones to stay away from.

Saves someone else from the same pain or potentially worse where brakes are concerned.

OK I've thought about this and I think you're right, better that I just raise with Redarc instead, I think their authorised dealers should be capable of performing a pretty basic installation of the SBI and Towpro.

sweetpea I've redacted the sparky's name in my post, but you quoted it in yours so your call if you want to remove it or not.

Thanks for pointing it out. I have deleted it and I regret not reading the quote before I posted.

Mate, you've still got what looks to be 6mm wire to run a dual battery system, 8mm at best! That will not work long term, as soon as the aux battery is discharged it will either blow fuses (that is assuming fuses are used) or cook the wire. I'm sure others will agree, this set up is a disaster waiting to happen by what you have shown in the pic.

X2, also from memory yellow crimp terminals are only rated at 20A

I think the close-up photo makes the wiring look smaller than it is ... the wires to the cig socket and brakes would be 8 or 10mm but the wires to the terminals look like 6 B&S and run through a couple of mounted breakers. Either way I'll get it checked out, I know that I want at least a new 6 B+S cable run to the rear Anderson plug to manage the trailer battery charging. I'm certainly not going back to argue to have work re-done, I can't trust it will be done suitably.

This has been a really frustrating experience, I have no ability to do this stuff so I asked a Toyota dealer to do it and they referred me to this guy ... "we send all our work there". I wasn't expecting to have to research and specify the wiring guages!

Hi again ICB, I suggest you take some measurements of the cable diameters including the insulation.

The largest cable you can fit into yellow crimp terminals is 8B&S ( 7.9mm2 ) and in many cases, you need to trim a few strands to get it in a yellow crimp terminal.

6B&S should be the minimum size used for your dual battery cabling.

                      6mm AUTO ( 4.5mm2 ) is roughly 4mm

                      8B&S ( 7.9mm2 ) is a tad under 5.5mm

                      6B&S ( 13.5mm2 ) is a little over 7mm

As he has used yellow crimp connectors then quite simply the cable is too small. Don't leave it as it is. My very first time I ran cable to the rear for a fridge I used 6mm2 cable because that is what the place who sold me the fridge said to use and they just happened to have some for sale. I didn't check. Bear in mind this was last century! The cable over time overheated and became hard and that made it more resistive and the losses got worse. Run some 6B&S and for that you will need decent connectors not cheap automotive crimps.

My dealings with Redarc over this side have been good and I would telling them about your install.

Maybe my eyesight is failing but to me, that yellow sleeve hasn't been crimped which suggests to me that yellow crimp connectors weren't used in the install and that the cable may be close to the ideal size (6B&S).

If you compare the size of the red wires to the light gauge blue control wires there
doesn't appear to be much difference in the size, only measuring the wire will give
                            a definitive answer.

Hi mjrandom. Are you saying that you ran 6b&s to your socket in the rear to connect the fridge. Doesn't a fridge pull about 5amp max. I can understand this cable if you were going to a fuse box in the rear to supply other items but seems heavy for a direct fridge wire.

Looks like 8B&S on the main connections to the terminal, and 10B&S to the fridge socket.

Can we talk about someone else's install now ... I need a moment ...
