  • Adding Anderson plug at front of car for ease of charging.

    Hi All,

I'm looking at mounting an Anderson plug on the bull-bar behind the LED light bar for ease of plugging in when I want to top the batteries up at home on the smart charger.
So far I'm thinking all I need is a 50A manual-reset circuit breaker under bonnet. This should cover me in case some idiot sees the plug and decides to short out the terminals shouldn't it ?
    Any other comments/ideas ?

    Thanks,
    Paul

Don't know what brand smart charger you have but ctek do a plug specially for this wired up with 8mm ring terminals ready to go on the battery.

A circuit breaker will do the job, but so will an appropriate sized fuse. If the smart charger is a 10amp model just run it through a 15amp blade fuse in an inline holder, no need to over do it. Don't need to use an Anderson plug either, a deutsch plug will work fine for what you want to do too.

What sort of dual battery system have you got, if it is a VSR some of
them have dual sensing, ie you can plug the charger into the anderson
plug on the rear of your vehicle and it will charge both aux and cranker.

If you intend on leaving the charger on 24/7 just be aware that his can
have a detrimental affect on some car alarm siren back up batteries etc.

If it is just to connect a 240VAC charger you can just use Anderson PowerPoles. Much smaller and lower gauge wire required.

          Thanks for the replies.
I'd rather a circuit breaker than a fuse so there's nothing to replace unlike a blown fuse.
It is a Ctek charger, but not one with the extra connector.
My VSR is a Redarc SBI12. It is supposedly not dual sensing but like the one in my other car also, it seems to be. If I put the aux battery on charge, after a while the VSR links the batteries. Having said this, I'm not concerned with charging the main battery, it's only to top-up the Optima aux battery as it's quite small and can struggle over a couple of hot days if the car isn't driven much (I have a fridge running 24x7).
Leigh I hadn't even thought about just backing the car in and using the rear Anderson plug ! That should do the job nicely.
