Are the genuine ones worth rebuilding? The pulleys can be purchased. I'd imagine the bearings can as well. I'm not sure if the regulator can be bought as an assembly or whether brushes can be replaced. The only other thing is the diode pack.

Any tips on where to get a Denso in Perth ? Don't think I can wait a week for an east coast delivery.
If you ring them they will organise special delivery to make sure it gets there fast (they are based in Adelaide). I rang them and they, for the same freight price, dropped it into the greyhound bus which got it here the very next day and I ordered it at 3pm.
Depends on how much you want it now, I was quoted $790 for a Denso from the dealer in Adelaide when I was looking for the first one.

I bought one of these from the same guy before his last business went broke.
The clutch failed and took a long time to get a replacement unit, but i did get it.

I don't really have time, so dropped the car off to my mechanic and he will drop in a JAS unit. Higly recommended he said and half the price of a denso. Warranty no issues and they will send a new one without requiring the old one back first. Fingers crossed. I wish I didn't have to work so much as I would have liked to change it over myself but at $180 for labour its cheaper than me missing work !

Takes about 45 mins to change.
Step 1: remove bottom rock panel
Step 2: with a 14 mm offset ring spanner attached to a tie down strap - attach strap to spanner and other end to chassis near gearbox.
Step 3: tighten ratchet to pull down belt tensioner, then remove serpentine belt
Step 4: remove battery terminal, either the main lead or the smaller terminal in fuse box, the one with a 10mm bolt.
Step 5: remove power cable from alternator and then the control plug.
Step 6: Loosen both bolts from alternator and remove
Step 7: remove alternator from car via the mudguard, you may need to unclip the plastic - rubber flap.
Installation is reverse of above but take note if the main bolt for the new alternator may be loose fit. If it is be sure to center the alternator on this bolt. Should your alternator not be square the belt will scream.
Bit hard to see but the offset ring spanner is on the belt tensioner.
Ratchet strap on other end of ring spanner to gearbox crossmember.
If you don't want to reset the windows, clock, radio just remove this electrical lead. Be careful not to short it out.
Looking through the guard.
Almost out.
It is fairly simple task even for those non mechanics. Just remember to use good quality spanners and have full engagement on the bolts before loosening them.
Good to check the bearings in the idlers now, they will last a very long time if not driven through mud holes.

The photo of the alt unit siting on the chassis
Mine has an intercooler hose siting partially accross the area,
But it's flexible enough to squeeze it thru.
Also that ebay link to an adelaide based supplier seem abit weird
when I attempted to call them with some questions the call diverted to what sounds to be an overseas number??
Thanks for the detail removal list
I accessed the tensioner pully from the bottom and it was quite easy to remove the belt.
I ended up going Genuine
cheers

Hi, I had the same thing with the intercooler pipe partially obstructing. It's flexible enough to be moved easily. Strange about the number as I've spoken to them a few times on the phone and no issues.
Glad to hear you got it all sorted though. Easy enough job, just fiddly and annoying in parts.
Cheers for the review!
