  • Headlight question

    Afternoon All
I've blown 2 headlights in under 24 hours. They were Philips White Vision and were about 6 months old. I drive with my lights on all the time and do about 40km a day on unsealed roads. It was lucky I still had the original lights in my toolbox. Any suggestions as to what is happening?
    cheers

Was it in the same light or both sides? If the latter they probably just protested about age vs temp change... if its the same light and a new bulb blew ... who knows

Try not to touch the headlight bulb with bare hands. Read link below.

Hi Pradosaur - different sides and the temp did climb to -8 over nights so it might be old age. but still no where near the advertised 50,000 hours

Thanks Milkmanstan - I'm very conscious of the oils in my fingers stuffing headlights, it's something you only do once.
        cheers

I think the advertised life expectancies is a bit like the advertised fuel ecomony.... under test conditions.... which are not generally commensurate with real life

50,000 hours sounds like a LED life expectancy not a high output halogen globe, the technical specs state "Life time B3/Tc = 200/400" B3 means 3% have failed by 200 hours) Tc means 63.2% have failed by 400 hours.
High output globes of any make do not last in comparison to standard globes hence why Philips offer LongLife EcoVision globes with a life of up to 1500 hours as well.
