  • Key fob battery life?

I have a 11/2014 prado I was about 2hrs away from home when the fob stopped responding showing the no key detected sign on the dash then with a bit of panicking it started then about 2 weeks later I went to start the car and same thing so I got the spare fob and it started so it’s time to change the fob battery and put a spare battery in the glove box. I wish the prado had a good old key I hate fobs for this reason.

so how long have people got out of there fob batteries and has anyone got stuck like I nearly did and how often do people change there fob battery?

Did you try the emergency procedure described in the owner's manual? Those fobs contain an active RFID tag and a passive one. If you hold the fob right up to the start/stop button (with your foot on the brake) then the receiver in the start/stop button should be able to excite the passive tag in the fob, and get you started.

The original battery lasted a couple of years and now i have replaced it with cheap ebay batteries. They are a couple of bucks each, cost about a dollar from memory and last about a year.

Ha, I got some from the same seller last week. My tyre pressure monitor uses the same size so I got 10 although my fob was also flat. We leave the keys in the car all the time so I assumed it was transmitting often. Only 2 years out of the original batteries.

          Cheers, Nova

Lately, I get in the car and every now and then, when I go to start it and it shows the no key key symbol even though its in my pocket. Is this a symptom of a dieing battery? Its a Dec-14 GXL.
